CDN paper docs to expire 2009 12 31
As you may know, Transport Canada recently introduced a booklet-type licence with your picture in it. I asked an instructor at the flying club about exchanging my paper licence for one, and he though it would be a couple of years before they got down to humble PPLs.
NOT SO!
On their web site, they are saying that all paper-only documents for ATPL, CPL, PPL, and others will be invalid after the end of December 2009. I applied for my booklet a month ago and it has not been processed yet according to my online file. They are saying 4-6 weeks, so if you have a paper Canadian PPL I would get in ahead of the rush.

Update
Today was four weeks after I sent it in, and they sent me a letter saying that I had to to a language qual test, which just involved phoning them and speaking a few sentences. Now they will process my book!
They also explicitly confirmed in a letter that the 31st of December deadline still applies
