flying in the canary Islands
I am going to one of the canary islands in a few weeks, I state one of cause the wife is waiting for me to book, My choice will be based on the replys that i may get back from you people.
Could anyone tell me if they know of any airfields/clubs where I may be able to rent an aircraft for a few hours in any of the main islands. Links to websites would be great, also any advice on flying in the canaries as it will be a new experience for me.
I assume that as an JAA license holder my privilages will be extended there as Spain being a state member.
all replys greatfully recieved
thanks

In the Canary Islands you can fly with Aeroclub de Tenerife or with Aeroclub de Gran Canaria. So if you want to do some flying, you have to book your holidays in Tenerife island or in Gran Canaria island.
In my personal opinion, Tenerife is better for 'ground tourism' and sightseeing, but for the flying part I would recommend Gran Canaria. Aeroclub de Tenerife is based in Los Rodeos Airport, which is IMC a lot of the time, as Dave Gittins told in his previous post.
The whole archipelago is windy. Moderate to strong winds are not uncommon, specially in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. But is possible to fly most of the days.
Tenerife is not far away from Gran Canaria, so you can do the hop flying to see the island.
