"Clouting" the insurers ... ?

It's coming up to the time when I have to reinsure my aircraft. This time, I've been courted by two brokers, who have provided quite substantially different quotes - which I must admit suprised me, and got me thinking ...

Has anyone ever floated the suggestion of co-ordinated action in respect of the flying community and the insurers? After all, it would be one hell of an undertaking to try and get all the owners of (say) Ford Escorts to club together and demand "best" rates, but all the owners of all the C182/PA28 etc in the UK wouldn't fill a decent sized village hall, so how hard can it be ?

Yes, I know there will be widely differing experience ranges, issues over public and private CofAs (is this still an issue with EASA?) etc etc etc. But it does seem that with a modicum of co-ordination, the user "base" could sort itself out and really demand the best possible rates from the insurance industry.

Just a late night thought, musing on the day's paperwork after a beer or two ... but does anyone know if it's been attempted before, or does anyone have any valid experience/thoughts to offer ?
