I fairly certain that this airfield is now closed to ALL traffic. Everyone that I know up there had to get out some time ago. The old RAF site became Robertson Barracks and is basically a Tank unit. Shame really because it was one of those airfields which ALWAYS had an into wind runway.

Although the main airfield was taken over by the army some years ago a strip adjacent to a hangar on the far side of the field was retained and I believe remains operational although I haven't flown from there for a couple of years.

Its a difficult one - to all intents and purposes SM is closed to ALL G/A.
I understand that the "other side" of the airfield was only leased to G/A by the Army, and post 9/11, they took it all back.

There certainly is some G/A activity there, and a lot of military avaition activity, but I am sure that no civil aircraft are based on the airfield anymore.

I think it's a case of "who you know", perhaps "Formationphoto" may be able to help.

What a shame, I started my professional career as a flying instructor at Swanton in 1973.
