Luscombe 0-200 conversion
Hello any fellow Luscombe owners out there. I'm looking into converting my 8E, (C85-12F powered) .To take a Continental 0-200. I'm presently in the stage of collecting info and working out what I'm told is a fairly straight forward conversion. Does anyone have any knowledge and guidance on this job. I've already picked up some info from Cliff Lovell but would welcome any other input. Particularly as the Don Luscombe history foundation, who hold drawings for the original U.S. STC are currently in liquidation, (I believe)?

The guy you need is Alan Caldicott, G-BULO based at Popham. He's re-sparred his (wing and tail) and fitted wing tanks as well as an O-200. An article appeared within the last year in Pilot.

Thanks Mike.
I've been trying to get hold of PFA engineering over the last few days but keep getting 'the person you're ringing is unavailable' message but that is my next port of call.

I knew there was at least one 0-320 version in the U.K. Apparently the climb rate is phenomenal! I gather that big lump up the front doesn't help the handling though.
Just managed to get through to the PFA. Apparently there's some sort of open day on today.
The 0-320 version U.S. STC was originally held by McKenzie Flying Service Inc, Springfield, Oregon. Who I gather, are long gone. They published an info sheet that claimed the 150 hp version of the Luscombe cruised at 130 mph and climbed at 1500fpm. All on 8.2 U.S.g.p.h. There's also a Chinook APU powered Turboprop version flying in the states called a 'Luscombe Speedwing' because they crop the wings and make a Luscombe look like a V1! Cruises at 180 mph though! The 0-200'll do for me I think!

try a search on the FAA website for STC's done in the US. They will generally be "rubber-stamped" by the PFA. I think the website is here but you might need to enter your search criteria. It helps if you know your original TCDS number.
I bet you someone posesses that STC.
Mike, I think you need new glasses...an 0-320 is not a turbine.
[edited to add that it crashed, pilot hurt but survived...some years ago now]

The biggest problem we have is, how can I put this, personal dimensions trade off against fuel on board!!! By the way, did you like the photo?
