Angry How Ironic!

When you are involved with the operations of an airfield you expect that from time to time you will receive complaints from locals about noise from aircraft operating in and around your airfield, right or wrong, it’s just something that happens,

BUT,

WOULD YOU EXPECT THEM TO COME FROM A WORKING PILOT WHO REGULARLY OPERATES INTO YOUR AIRFIELD?

Believe it or not that is the case at an airfield on the outskirts of Melbourne where a resident neighbour of said airfield is one of the most vocal complainants with regard to noise from the airfield.

This neighbour, who is the chopper pilot for a major TV Network (the last one on the dial!) regularly uses this airfield, an ALA, (without first obtaining permission as is required), and has even been known to land said aircraft in his own front yard if he’s late for dinner.

You have to ask yourself, what is this person on about?
A working pilot, complaining about the noise from an airfield that he moved next to because it was close to where he used to work as a pilot before this job, complaining about the noise of which he is partly responsible for making.

Get real John, you’re making a fool of yourself.

Is there a 'For Sale' sign in front of his house?.

Curfew or similar may be a motive to increase real estate values.

Believe it or not the same thing is known to happen here in Auckland - A nearby resident to Ardmore (who apparently operates fixed wing out of the airfield) is a known complainant of helicopter noise over his house

Had a conversation a while ago with somebody that regarded the entire aviation industry as an affront against nature. Grounding all aeroplanes would stop the noise, keep the CO2 out of the atmosphere and the NO2 out of the ozone layer (or was that the other way around), kerosene in the ground and the arabs poor.

I noted he had just got back from research in India, and asked him how he'd travelled.

"Flew of course, how else would I do it?"

Am I an Anorak?

1) I live on the downwind entry point for B1900's for my local airport.

2) I often drive the long way home to see what is on the tarmac.

3) When I hear the local Bell 206 air ambulance I pop out the house to see which way it is heading.

However.... I do find the noise of the local float plane ops quite annoying - they ARE loud!

It's funny how in most cases, the airport was there before the houses. Cheap land for building on, and then they start complaining that the noise is too loud.

Amuses me to no end

Same in America. Happens all the time.

Maybe someone will design an electric airplane.
