NZ Flight Ops to Pilot position?

Hi

It says to post here if it doesnt fit into the others.

I was wanting to know if working in Flight Ops in NZ, can or has, eventuated to being taken on directly as a pilot.??
(turboprop or jet)

G'day,

Not NZ but know a bloke in Australia who worked in Ops for one of the regionals. Apparently did a lot of good work and was extremely well respected and liked by management.

Company went under but CEO started up another company and employed him as a pilot with around 200hrs flying C208/B1900.

Lucky yes, but sounds like he deserved it...good on him!

Lucky? Quite possible.

Major ar$e licker ? More likely.
Only way to endear yourself to that CEO TL .

An old instructor of mine in the mid '90s went and worked in Air NZ simulator ops for a couple of years, then moved onto FO B737.

true luke, but they closed that door shortly afterwards. I believe that that individual was the last.

tied of a higher turnover of people through that position I guess.

I bet he got paid whilst working in OPS, unlike those low hour pilots working for free.

If you ever become management, you will realise that it is not asslicking but a team effort.

Yes it has happened a few times - all excellent people too - not many though - in my 20+ something years, 4 x I think.
