Question DC H10-13XL's and H10-13-X's

Hi does anyone know what the difference between these two are?

Is anyone using these headsets ?

Is ANR the same as ENC??

Your thoughts much appreciated

ANC = ENC; differnt mfrs is all.

10-13X vs XL - different connections, I've got the XL which is fitted with the universal 2-plug GA connectors, is portable and battery powered thru a pack, or can be connected to an accessory lead. The X is hard wired into the a/c with a single-point (unique) connector. Both are also available for fling-wing applications.

Good? Hell yes! Did a very good test - flew Qld-WA in a piston-prop with my faithful H10-30s, then did it again a month later with the H10-13Xls. Fatigue levels NOTICEABLY lower; less ear-squash and MUCH better acoustics. Try them - you'll be convinced. (the latest versions now run on a single 9v battery rather than the 6xAAs)

JAMAIR,

If the batteries runout though, do they just become like a normal headset is that right??

How many hours do you get out of your batteries? Do you use rechargeable ones??

Thanks

Yes they do become just like a normal set of DC's once the battery runs out. Mine started to give a weird crackle when the battery died, all dissapeared once I changed the battery.

They say the going rate for the 9V battery is about 50 hours or so. Surprisingly they do come with a battery, unfortunately mine only lasted probably 10hours.

If you can justify the cost, they do make a huge difference on a long flight.

Yep, I often actually forget to turn em on during pre-flight but always remember when I open the taps

You can either get an adapter to connect the power pack to the ciggie lighter socket, or get a second backup battery pack (they take 6x AAs). You can also use a 9V battery as a spare, the battery connectors inside the power pack are the same, but they don't last long. I got 60hr out of my (supplied) first set of AAs, about 5 hours out of a 9v, and I'm still on the second set of AAs 50hr later.

A cheaper alternative is the DIY sets you can get from Global etc which you can fit to existing headsets; don't go looking for warranty but! DC 10-13XLs are expensive ($1400), but how much do you value your hearing? You're talking about a 20yr item, so $70/yr ..... I've still got and occasionally use my 20yr DC10-30s so I can attest that quality is cheaper in the long run.

Your dollar, your call. If you're SE Qld, drop me a PM & I'll see if we can give you a sample.

When you look at the parts layout of the 10-13's you can see that on the LHS where the mike connects one of the 2 foam inserts to reduce the noise has a 25% qtr cut out. So you really have better protection on the right not the left. Strange eh!. I wonder which side they use when the results are measured. And in a light twin sitting on the left you would think this would be picked up on. Oh well just have to turn em around or buy another RHS insert and stuff it into the LHS in place of the old one.

Maybe useless info, but there it is.

XL Vs X

Thanks for the offer Jamair. I have tried a pair before so I am quite familiar with them.

It seems that the new models only come with one 9 volt battery and that they don't use the AA's anymore. It seems strange when the 4 AA's last longer than the single 9 volt battery.

Just wondering why you chose the XL over the X ? Because the XL seems to be much dearer for virtually the same product. Do you own your own plane or do you fly planes with the XP panel mount in them ?? That is the only reason I think that you would buy the XL. Am I correct?? Because I think that I am better suited to just the X (hardwired battery).

Sorry just curuious to know as I might change my mind too.

Thanks again

Yup, own my own....but also 'cause the option wasn't available when I bought them. The system has changed with the 9V battery, not just a change of power supply but how it is used; that's why in mine a 9V won't last. Also the new ones have an auto-off feature that mine don't, in case you leave 'em running after parking the 'plane.

For the best price, talk to Helen at Darling Downs Aeroclub. CYa

Jamair,

Thanks to you and a few others I am now the proud owner of a new set of DC H10-13X headsets. They look good, but I have yet to try them. I can't wait. I got an excellent price from the U.S. and I received them in 5 days.

How is that for efficient customer service!!!

I will let you know how they go

Thanks for all your input

Well done; do yourself another favour and buy a set of cotton comfort covers; keep your ears dry and free of nasty fungi when the going gets sweaty (this is Qld afterall!)

when you start using the DCs, see what you think of the difference in both Tx and Rx volume and clarity, then tell everyone else to buy a set too!

Cheers.

I was thinking of buying a pair of the comfort covers but the manual says don't use them with the ENC headsets. What are your thoughts on this??

Cheers
