Does Qantas consider Virgin experience?
Amos
Are you telling Metro boy to show the same loyalty to Virgin Blue as you showed to Ansett or TAA in 89?
Remembering Virgin pilots are underpaid and as deserving of a 30% payrise as you were in 89.
Metro Boy is voting with his feet instead of industrial action.
You old fool and hypocrite.
Sit back, relax and think of how much damage you have done to this industry from the perspective of a young airline pilot starting out.
Show some accountability.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with applying to Qantas after having worked at Virgin, In fact, you might even find that working for the opposition might make you slightly more attractive when you are going through the recruiting stage. After all, if Qantas can gain an employee while at the same time taking someone out of the Virgin system - it might just work in your favour. Plus you have already demonstrated your competency at flying a jet engined transport aircraft, so that should serve as an advantage during the selection process.
I for one can't understand why everyone gets so upset whenever someone mentions leaving Virgin. After all, it is a free market economy. Why should commercial pilot be the only profession where it is regarded as sinful to try & maximise your earning potential?
Further, I fail to understand why there is such loyalty towards Virgin Blue. What loyalty above & beyond any other employer has the company shown towards its employees? Paying them far less than the going rate in the industry? Requiring them to pay for their training in order to gain employment? The general reduction in accomodation, allowances & other benefits? I fail to see how these & other measures have engendered such fervent loyalty amongst the virgin employees. All that is happening is the fat cats at the top of the organisation are lining their pockets at your expense...
Should you join Qantas, Metroboy, you'll probably find that although you will be a S/O, within 18 months of being checked to line you'll be making the same money as DJ Captains. If being an S/O & flying around the world bores you, there is the option of becoming a 767 F/O within the same period of time, putting you (at the minimum) back on a par status wise as well as increasing your earnings when compared to your former DJ peers.
At the end of the day , the choice is up to you.

Metro Boy - As your boss said 'If they want Qantas wages let them work for Qantas." Says it all really. You state that you want a more diversified career and you certainly have plenty of choice with QF. If you decide that flying 737s domestically is what you really want to do then you still have that choice on a salary equivalent to a VB Captain.
