Melbourne. Very fast blinking light

Melbourne last night. An object with blinking a green and red light moved from south to north at a very fast speed. No sound. The light was clear so not in outer space.
Visible for some 10 seconds.
Any guess what it was?

You could try using WebTrak doing a historical search within the time period:

Likely a drone.

remember the human eye does not differentiate well - given a similar apparent arc and apparent brightness / colour - a small LED on a low drone with larger bright light on an aircraft with a star trillions of miles away without some other concrete association.

CS. It certainly fits the description. But I’ve been advised by the OP that it wasn’t a drone! Apparently it was doing 300kts 😱 Right.

I once had a motorbike fail the MOT because of fast blinking lights, but they were the orange indicators.

I’ve seen plenty of ‘fast’ jets at night, while ‘star-gazing’, that make little-to-no noise as they cross overhead or near overhead. Doesn’t take too much altitude or low power settings to make them quiet.

Police are known to conduct covert drone operations at night. I recently one had conducted near my place, went out to see what the heck was going on after seeing a group of people hanging around this site, detectives conducting an undercover operation in the night, including drone surveillance. I figured something was up when someone called the cops for them to just drive by, give them a wave then continue on.
