Binskin reappointed Chair of CASA Board
From the Minister: https://minister.infrastructure.gov....air-casa-board
I am pleased to announce the reappointment of Air Chief Marshall (Ret’d) Mark Binskin AC as Chair of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Board for three years.
ACM Binskin is a former Chief of both the Defence Force and the Royal Australian Air Force.
He brings considerable experience in the fields of aviation, corporate governance, program management, international relations and defence.
During his time already served as CASA Board Chair, ACM Binskin has focused on implementing the Statement of Expectations issued last year, revamping the board for better performance and improving CASA’s technical capability.
These skills and his leadership experience will continue to be valuable in his reappointment as Chair of the CASA Board.
His qualifications and experience will continue to help shape and govern CASA as it navigates future opportunities and challenges.
I look forward to continuing to work with the CASA Board to ensure Australian aviation remains among the safest in the world and a world-class leader.

By all accounts a great person with many outstanding qualities and achievements.
But the CASA Board is useless and pointless.
Apparently ACM (Rtd) Binskin thinks it's a good idea to "focus on implementation" of the Minister's "Statement of Expectations". ATSB now does the same thing.
CASA was set up as an entity independent of the Commonwealth so as to insulate it from political influence. And the TSI Act has all sorts of hairy-chested provisions about the ATSB's independence. But then the appointees to the heads of these organisations spend their time falling over backwards to please the Minister, and are chosen on that basis. Lucky there's no politically-unpalatable news about aviation safety that should be delivered on a frank and fearless basis to the Minister.

Favourite expression of these braided officer types in Canberra when faced with a problem of any kind is to …. “kick it into touch”.
Not just a chest full of medals apparently, but rugger enthusiasts too. How lucky are we?

Amazing considering that the Minister has just knocked back (arguably) the Board's most important decision. Selection of a CEO.
Given that decision was an act of no-confidence in the Board, we have our evidence.
The whole Canberra mess is simply a jobs-for-the-boys and girls.
Expect her next announcement to be Peter Curran for CEO.
