Whistleblowers in Australia get treated like criminals. Chances are you would find yourself under investigation.
No confidence in CASA doing anything.
Communicate via a hungry journalist and then the ears in Canberra magically open.
Bit like airlines who treat customers badly. Airline has zero care factor until it makes the press. Expect a call and refund from the Communications teams within an hour.

Looks like the ATSB works the same now as well. If you want an incident or accident to be investigated you have to jump up and down, and make enough noise that the public knows about it. Otherwise it gets swept under the carpet.
And while we know why and most likely how the accident happened the ATSB or somebody should really look into the other issues brought up here. Like all the blatant posting of illegal operations and apparent reports with nothing done to curtail his antics. Maybe the Coroner should get involved and shed some light on how he got to be in the situation of flying an aircraft unlicensed for what seems a decent amount of time.
Put some pressure on CASA to focus on real issues, or are they scared to find out that because the regs are so over bearing that GA is rife with non compliance and the regulator has lost all real control.

So a report is made to CASA - ole mate has bought himself a plane, and is now flying without a PPL.
they follow it up, and find it to be true.
What are they going to do? Take away his PPL? Oh wait…
I agree with 43inches.

Once CASA is presented with the evidence, they would be stupid not to act. They love a good prosecution.
Problem is, it’s considered “unAustralian” to dob people in. If people knew about this character’s lack of qualifications and general irresponsibility, by keeping quiet they now have blood on their hands.

So you believe whistleblowers get good treatment in Australia?
You can’t expect to blow the whistle and get off free when there are laws and policies that will be broken that have jail time attached.
It’s very different to someone dobbing on old mate with no PPL.
That aside I do recall someone telling me that you can’t anonymously report someone to CASA as they will need you in the witness box, so dobbing on old mate will see you in court in front of him.
A mate of mine told me long ago when I first became a cop… “don’t sh1t in your own nest.” It was and still is, good advice.

Yes got all that. Is an innocent person who has committed no crime and reports or "whistleblows" on others who have done wrong treated well in Australia?

Ever been on a committee? The committee speaks as one. If you don’t agree, you can leave. If there’s a law or condition of employment that says you can’t whistleblow, you have no sensible option but to resign. It’s how the “system” works.
Errrrm, what’s it got to do with being on a committee?
In reference to this specific case, and referring to the abundance of videos he was posting, his friends and family might have just assumed he was licensed, or he told them he was already licensed, who knows. Not many people outside of a PIC know much about this industry, and how licensing even works.
I understand you can lodge CASA reports online, and anonymously. If illegal behaviour is posted on social channels, they shouldn’t really need much else from you, that is why HR love it when employees misbehave online, they can produce a letter for them the next day, long investigations not required. Some of my colleagues who play IMAPILOT on instagram have been pulled into the office many times over by anonymous reporting.
Have CASA ever taken away an aircraft from someone? I get a feeling that for some to obey the law, you would need to otherwise they wouldn’t care and continue on.

Committee schmitee.
I’m still confused about what point you’re trying to make, apparently about the implications of the different characteristics of the places from which the whistleblower leaves.
So far as I can tell, you’re merely restating the problem.

Yeah I guess I am… re-enforcing that there’s little you can do about it, unless you’re somehow important and or have millions. Didn’t work for Trump either.
