Friendliest Airports For GA in Australia?
Bar a minority of whingers in the local population, Tyabb is absolutely awesome!
I think I saw the F4U Corsair out lurking the other day enjoying the good weather along the bay, definitely sounded like it, hopefully they have a formation of it, the Mustang and Kittyhawk again soon.
Is Milawa still accessible, it was always a good day trip, although the poor pilot might miss out on some of the tasting. Has been many years since I last visited, the food and wine festival was always worth flying up for, with Wangaratta as a nearby sealed alternate. I remember they even would run a small courtesy bus to the winery from WGT if you had a few passengers wanting to sample the local goods.
Tooradin used to be awesome, but now is only good for touch&gos.. but given the current state of the runway, maybe not even that.
I've heard great things about Melton (the cafe, staff and food is amazing) but have yet to get there on account of me being paranoid about the grass rwys and all the rain we've had.
If you think it’s rough, try using your rudder pedals and stay in the middle!
I get that they probably want to discourage YMMB students from using the airport.. just mind the speed-bump after the numbers on 04.
Speed bump? Are we talking about the same runway here, what speed bump? I used 04 three times on Saturday and there was no speed bump.
Why would they want it discourage students that pay landing fees?
I know this is a rumour network, however you are clearly taking out your posterior.
The resurfaced component is in very good condition, no loose stones and perfectly flat.

Perhaps landing there after visiting Tyabb was not the best plan: Tooradin charge $10 (or thereabouts) for nothing to speak of, whereas Tyabb insist on giving you $5 back if you hand them a ten!

Ok, so I don't have any photos of the runway but certainly got the "firm" impression the resurfacing didn't cover the entire runway. You can see in the pic that all they've done is build up the old surface an inch or so. A bit like the parking really - if you're not on the concrete it's loose stones for you.

"Resurfaced" meaning fill in the pot-holes and lay on a thin layer of bitumen?? What a waste of money that was.
Clinton, Perhaps add Karumba to your list, albeit many years ago. Chief pilot of the GA operation generously loaned his car for free while he flew out to the islands for a couple of days. Karumba is one place where you really need transport from aerodrome to town. I've heard there's great fishing available there too but watch out for saltwater crocs!
You don’t get much for 400k these days. YMBA they dished up taxpayers $s 25 mil plus had to borrow a few mil to redo the f ups.
Dont know what % was spent on the runway. Whereas in times past after a tropical downpour water crossed the strip in the middle a few inches deep and 15m wide, allowing landings and t/offs . Now there are 5 places worse including a duck pond just past the threshold to 10.
Before It was flat and useable practically anywhere…not any more. They weren’t even going to put in a taxiway to solve the problem of long delays to backtrack when multiple aircraft were landing, circuits and go rounds.
Those that suggested a taxiway got abused by the council. They did wilt and put in non- straight one !! but not to the threshold and no run-up area. And the western holding point is in the wrong place.!
Developed by “experts”.
If I could show you some of the proposed maps, you,d fall about laughing.
A helicopter hovering training area was to be next to the aircraft parking !!! And with hangars only 20m away.

Fishing? It's not about the size of what you catch, but rather the time you spend doing it. Time spent fishing is added to one's lifespan.
I was based there in the early 80s on an aerocommander 500 then eventually commander 690. Great times with the animal bar etc. RIP my boss George raptis
Tooradin was looking mighty fine and smooth today! You young kids aren’t happy unless the bitumen is 25 metres wide.
Bitumen? Luxury!
Plenty of GA friendly places are grass or gravel.

43inches, Milawa (YILA) is still a great destination. The grass is in good condition as is the tie down area. It would be closed at the moment due to SWS like every other grass strip in the North East. Details are on the Browns website, plus a required PPR form.
‘’The food is excellent - I recommend the Bickfords 2022 ginger ale for the pilot.
