Thanks all,
I spent about two and a half hours yesterday filling in the form on the CASA website. Fortunately my GP prints off a comprehensive Medicare funded seniors medical health care plan report for me every six months. It had most of the information required and without it the CASA task would have taken a lot longer.
Am booked in to see a DAME tomorrow and will post here again with a run down after going through the mill.
Fortunately I don't have to travel as far as poteroo to see a DAME.

Crackup, the best part of retirement is never having to front up for a medical again. Can't imagine why you'd want to put yourself through that agony and stress again.

You are aware, I assume, that your DAME can do 3/5 of 5/8 of SFA without your blood test results and your optical results. You will be sent off to get them sorted and come back later.
A little tip - get a referral for the almost certain stress test ECG from your DAME and claim a slab on Medicare, after all it is not required for "a certificate of health" rather it is required because CASA medical standards require it for medical reasons.
I'm your age mate but I only renewed Class 2 last year - a simple walk in walk out with NIL tests required. I was surprised after 47 years of Class 1 nausea. If a fun flying job comes up then I'll seriously consider Class 1 again but for the moment I'm happy to fly with my pals in light a/c.

Hi All, Just posting to say thanks for the advice and to report completion. It took just a week over three months from the date of the DAME examination to CASA AVMED issuing the Class 1 medical. There was a few weeks delay toward the end of the process, with AVMED requiring further documentation which they already had three months ago. The Class 1 Commercial Pilot medical, issued for six months from the day of the DAME examination, has less than three months left from the date of issue. The Class 2 has nine months left on it. With the change of medical requirement for instructors happening way ahead of when I expected it to, a class 2 would have been fine but after going through the process I hung out for the class 1.
It was a worthwhile exercise to find out that I'm not doing too bad health wise for an old bloke. Most of the cost of the exercise was covered by Medicare because I was due for cardio, blood and ophthalmology tests anyway for ongoing general health monitoring of previously flagged medical issues.
There was no stress or agony for me, as it did not really matter timewise, or if I passed. It would not be good though, to wait that amount of time if a medical was needed to make a living.

Extraordinary! A 3 month validity after over 3 months taken up for tests and the decision.

i believe Forsyth is back on the scene and perhaps you might try to make contact with him through AOPA? This BS has got to be stopped.

Also worth making a formal complaint to the Commonwealth Ombudsman.

Hi Kaz, I can't imagine that pilots employed by the major and regional airlines would have to wait so long, so anyone deemed to be not so important, such as old farts like me, get prioritised to the bottom of the heap. AOPA members probably get the same treatment. There appears to be only one AVMED doctor vetting any medicals which can't be processed by box ticking. I'm past wanting to fix CASA's problems, which seem to be worse now than they ever were. How did Part 61 happen? Maybe it's time to get Dick back.
Cheers,
