Proposed wind farm impacts Cobden ALA future
The photo will be somewhere on this web site:
“…Stripping the Amazon basin’s forests of balsa to make wind turbine blade is all part of our ‘inevitable’ transition
…Giant industrial wind turbines comprise hundreds of tonnes of steel, aluminium, plastics, copper and rare earths used in the generator’s magnets. There is also at least a tonne of gear oil and hydraulic fluid on board. And then there’s the 50-80 m long blades each weighing between 12 and 18 tonnes, each a comprised of a veritable cocktail of toxic plastics, fibreglass and composite materials – all inevitably headed for landfill. Then there’s the balsa wood frame.
Balsa wood provides the backbone for millions of turbine blades in service around the world (and the hundreds of thousands already dumped in landfill). And the Amazon – aka the lungs of the Earth – is being stripped bare to get it…”

Yep, not good. Still one has to look at the bigger picture, i.e. the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels to generate electricity. Say a windmill lasts for 20 years and produces so and so many GWh during it's lifetime. I'm sure someone has studied this.
Here in DK, we have a lot of windmills and it's windy right now, both here and in the neighbouring countries. This means that between 14 and 16 CET today the raw price of electricity is going to be ZERO. All you pay is a distribution fee of 15 or so p per KWh.
