CASA how-to manual for flight crew licencing

Found this in CASA's manuals section of their website. Rather informative, I thought. Pretty much chapter & verse about the admin side of the new Part 61 licencing system.

Overseas license conversion

I've been trying to get an answer from CASA about converting my foreign ATPL to the CASA equivalent.

It seems like they're in a bigger state of confusion that I am! The last time I checked the CASA website, the info leaflet published was last updated in 2013.

In spite of several emails and phone calls, the best response I got was: "We'll get back to you!"

In typical bureaucratic fashion, the FCL Procedures Manual sends me on a wild goose chase to the Part 61 MOS, when then takes me to the actual CASR Part 61. The icing on the cake.... There are so many versions of the Draft, Proposed and Actual Part 61 instrument out there, it's not even funny!

Rant over!

If there's anyone out there who has a definitive idea on what I would need to do to convert my foreign license to a CASA ATPL under Part 61 (with my current type ratings), please let me know. I'd forever be in your debt!

Just fill out the forms and send it in.

Here is the page - http://www.casa.gov.au/scripts/formd...ion=2140877927

and the forms have a checklist and will tell you roughly what you need to include. Once you can tick everything off just send it to them and wait.

Form 61-4A - CASA Flight Crew Licence Application on basis of Overseas Civil Qualifications (Part A)

Form 61-4B - CASA Flight Crew Licence Application on basis of Overseas Civil Qualifications (Part B)

Then sit and wait some more, then wait a bit longer and check your mail, bingo, its been returned because you forgot to dot an "i".

Then dot the "i", post it back and wait some more, usually the second wait gets in a result.

Good luck! I am sure they are busy currently ...

I love it how the only plain English version of these changes ( the above document) are not really aimed at the gen flying community.

Honestly the new manual makes the "known knowns and unknown knowns" speech sound understandable.
