It was initially feared the single-engine plane had crashed but police confirmed a call had been received from the pilot about 1.45pm today.

I heard this while I was up today. Pilot declared a mayday due to oil over the windscreen, and a few minutes later reported that his engine had failed and he was going to land on a road. A few tense minutes later he came back on the radio saying that he had landed and all pax were ok. Kudo's to the pilot and the controller!
