Rosters on Geneva using Android ?.

G'day,

Am new to the world of the Android phone.

How do I view and copy a roster from Geneva, I have the Adobe PDF program working, I am unable to open and save PDF documents from Geneva to Tablet/Phone.

Thanks in advance.

And the planet you have been on is??

Josh,
Crewnet is a bodgy webpage/menu/link system at the best of times. Never had it work even half OK on the Droid, so let me know if you work it out! IIRC (mine's at the doctors at the moment - quiet, Clarrie), direct links work OK but that wave-over dropdown Roster menu is the thing that Android can't cope with.

The only direct way that I found is to email the PDF roster to your android email acct. Then you have to have a PDF viewer installed. That is only as good as the time you "print" your roster.

Now if Geneva had a a simple method of outputting your roster as a .ics file then it would be simple. It's all a matter of formatting. If you have someone in your IT dept who knows how to access the data behind Geneva then you will be half way there.

A sample ICS entry for an all day event on the 2nd April
BEGIN:VEVENT
UID:Rgntkk
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20120402
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20120403
CATEGORIES:Roster
SUMMARY:R05 (0500-1700)
END:VEVENT

Easiest way is to log into crewnet on your pc, download the pdf and email it to yourself, create a new folder for your geneva rosters and then you have instant access to it. No other way works that is as easy

Have been introduced to two very useful apps to combat the difficulties I've experienced with Geneva.

Credit to PG for the introductions.

"Dropbox" (free)
Is an app that you install on your home computer, tablet and phone, the files automatically copy to all devices when connected to the internet.

Down load your roster at home, drop into the dropbox and it will automatically appear on all devices, delete a file in the dropbox and it deletes on all devices.

There is also a website you can log into and access the files from any device, with a secure login.

"TeamViewer" (free)
Install the app on all devices, and you can control your home computer ( if it is turned on ) from your tablet or phone.

Enjoy.

Josh,

I found that if you download the firefox browser from the market... Oops 'Play Store' it can download the rosters directly from geneva. Its a little bit fiddley but seems to work.

Navitaire has just asked for suggestions for a major re-vamp of Geneva; I guess easy access from mobile devices will be one of them!

Firefox does the job on android. Pity it doesn't work on iPad. Have to email myself to get a roster on the iPad. Apparantly the drop down menu worked with older versions of ios?

How so? When I tap on the Rosters tab, the dropdown menu appears for about a second and then disappears; not enough time to select the Rosters popout.

Crewnet is a hideous piece of web development if ever there was one. iOS can't handle the menus either.

I stumbled across this gem of a website recently which works wonderfully with my Geneva roster. You just upload the PDF file and it will convert it to a number of different formats which you can then import into your preferred calendar app. I export to .ICS format and import it into the iCal app on my Mac.

Geneva & Merlot Roster Import

It's free for the first two roster imports and then there's some sort of a fee, but given its usefulness, I'm happy enough to pay.

I would pay $50 for someone to develop an app or something to get Geneva on iPad/iPhone

Capn Bloggs,

You have to kind of drag your finger down from the tab to the drop down, lift off, then tap and drag across to the desired roster. It is a little tricky. Must enable pop ups too.

Even though I know how to do it, still takes me a few goes.

Those using firefox on android, have you figured out how to enable crewnet rosters again after the version 14 update. Prior to this I had it sorted, now after the update, the dropdown menus no longer work again.

This is using Samsung Galaxy S2. I suggest if you havent done the update and its working, dont do the update. In saying that, is there any way to go back to the older version??

Have dolphin , can't seem to get rosters to work. Just a blank report page the same as the generic android browser. Are any add ons required?
Firefox still works for crew briefing reports.
