Growing up in Oz as such the only time I get to see snow is when I strap on a pair of skies and hurl myself down the slopes at the scenery. Off piste??...no thats when I get to the bar.

So how do the Aussie internation drivers cope with operating into ports where theres a blizzard, landing seems difficult enough, even taxing can be a challange. My only experiance of that was at Bathurst one year after a heavy snowfall. Got the fright of my life on landing......no brakes. Fortunately its a slight up slope. Tied the airfraft down and trained it home.

The US and European operaters work in these conditions day in day out, so they are well practiced. Does QF so much crew training, classroom stuff etc Is there a lot of experiance in theses conditions within the ranks.

The sight of a QF aircraft covered in snow is slightly incongruous.
12 years of operating the Hotham - Falls Creek run for 10 weeks every year was an interesting learning curve, especially with the aircraft parked outside! Oz snow is wet and heavy cf. Canada/USA/Italy, so there is quite a difference in how to protect and clear the stuff.

But it's Christmas Eve, and that's all stories for another day

But BAA had better clear LHR by the time we arrive next week, or there will be further stories.....

Aldergrove, battering snow all day. Kite parked all day and after two de-ice attempts( many British pounds worth) no joy, snow just piled back on as they got around.
All Aussie crew.. "Wadda we do mate?"
"Buggered if I know, its outside my experience, we could go pack it in and go to Foxy's bar, the stripper should still be on "
Command decision.

Each year he was there he was given several large boxes of the very finest whisky to distribute as he sees fit. His use was for de-icing.
Good grief, man. Until I read further, I thought that Pater was going to pour Scotland's finest over the wings!

I know that Russians have done it with Vodka, but that is forgiveable,
