Floatplane Rating

Is a float rating an 'endorsement' or a 'rating'?

Also, If I was to do one, would it cover me for my next AFR?

Cheers, Mike

G'day Mike

CAO 40.1.something details pilot licences - a floatplane "rating" is a design feature endorsement same as CSU, retractable U/c, TW, Press, Skis, Floating hull.

The instructor who does your endorsement should be able to cover the basic reqts of an AFR. It will probably require some additional briefing and flight time, so you should discuss this with him/her when you make the booking.

You could probably do yourself a favour and read the CAAP relating to AFRs- 5.84(1) if memory serves me correctly.

Have fun.
