Traffic Information Systems

Hi all,

I fly a G1000 equipped aircraft which has the ability to receive traffic information from appropriately equipped ATC radar facilities via datalink in the Mode-S transponder.

A few questions:

Are Australian ATC facilities capable of this? Or is there a plan to implement such equipment? And if so, when?

How colsely related is this form of Traffic Information System (TIS) to ADS-B? i.e. Should a TIS equipped aircraft receive ADS-B information or does it HAVE to come from ATC datalink?

Cheers.

I thought the objective of a fighterpilot was to FIND traffic not AVOID it?
