Quite possibly. Heard CII on Moresby HF the other week, not sure where in PNG it was though, only heard the controller calling it.
frigatebird, definately sounds like the typical IE politics that give many the shi+s.
Sumsum is still there? Bugger... wonder how he is liking his E-170, 732 etc etc
geeup/stubble, which Baron is this?

Hi Firgatebird,
Your buddy cough like hell in the cockpit and he keeps picking his dead skin with his pocket knife and flick it all around the cockpit in flight.......now with all the health issues their, plus swine flu going around I'll say his doing the F/Os and the paxs a favor by staying home.
He lost his medical, sorry to hear that but we gotta hang its up sometime.

Beech Baron
Gee up / Stubble / my name is
It's a B55 pocket rocket, think it used to be with GAM, VH YJZ.
The Beech 18 is rumoured to possibly soon to be followed by another, and a Grumman Goose.
Maybe working under the umbrella of the local entrepreneur who led SAW into Solomons, possibly mixed up with Coral Sea Express.
Harsh comment earlier about Solair pilots.
The monsoon season, December to April, is just as unforgiving there as it is elsewhere in the South Pacific.
In the Top End of Oz we call it "The Wet" or wet season. We seem to score a few wet season fatals, dont think the Solomons does.
If staying home is the solution, it works. What alternate options exist apart from Honiara?
The only navaids in the Solomons are at Honiara, however all the Sol ALA's have GPS/RNAV approaches.
Unfortunately Solair pilots are unlikely to be trained or licenced to use them, so they need a lot of local knowledge and experience to get by.
Sol Air is in a state of flux, Sol newspapers report restructuring, new Chief Pilot (local), New Chief Engineer (NZ) etc. And a few Aussies sent home.
It's their playground, and they seem to keep it safe.

Trexcey Babe -youre full of sh!t. He tells me his Aus ATPL 6 month medical expires next August - go figure! And he had a cough for a while that he cleaned up with anti-biotics - as would anyone there. As I said on another post, it is an unhealthy place - for your health, your wallet, and if you want to do a professional job - your sanity. Dont drink the water from the tap without treating it first, all the man and mari spit betel nut in the main street, and the piles of rubbish in the main street and government offices - and everywhere - breed rats. So he might have cleaned his nails in flight - at least he would have been a Chief Pilot who was prepared to get his hands dirty to get the flights out on time and supervise the operation. Unlike the local SDA ones, he tells me, who arent around on Saturdays, or the captains who cancells flights, inconveniencing forty passengers or more, because they have hangovers from Friday nights, or the ones who turn around and fly back an hour to Honiara rather than fly through a light rainshower when the destination is reported clear by other pilots, or the Fijian co-pilots who run up thousand dollar phone calls on the company ringing the family - the stories he tells - hes better off out of Sollie Airlines. Talk about waste, and lack of supervision - and then they cry poor!!!

Hi Frigate,
I am sorry to say, but its is you and your friend that full of sh*t , now the whole company against just you and your friend whos gonna believe you guys. The Solomons Airlines Management and the whole pilot body are saying the opposite of what you're saying since he is your boyfriend I'll say all your post are bias, its holds no water mate,I didnt say "nail" I said dead skin, Your friend is ill that why he lost his medical I am sorry to hear that.... its not something that any pilot is looking forward to. How he loses his job wheather its a medical reason or personal Sumsum reason WHO GIVES A SH#T its wont change the fact that he is not there anymore, he is OUT, anyway the point that I was trying to make on that post, is that everybody that has being putting solairs standards down, this is your chance to put up or shut up since the chief lost his job.Safe flying and happy landing frigate.
Ps Tell you friend when he gets his medical back and he still wants to fly I know two companies that are looking for very good Otter Capt any one of these companies will pay him a sh*t load of money more that solair ever did plus the option tours

He never lost it as I have been telling you for all the posts, but if you want to believe all the lies and bullsh!t from those guys, then you are welcome, just dont slander someone who tried to improve the operation. Who had inherited a mess from the previous c.p. at short notice when he wanted to go walkabout at the busy time. He probably will apply to other places as he still has a lot to offer - with a current medical. Get a life. Subject closed.

Heard that the current CP has allowed himself and his pilots to fly without a current medical back when he was previously Solair's CP.
Any truth?
Mainframe, thanks for the info. Any idea what the Baron is actually doing??
Local knowledge is the way to go up there thats for sure. Not many people were rated to do RNAVs in my time- but the equipment not being up to date (or more likely U/S) negated that anyway!!!!!! One day flying thru some rain and cloud I noticed one GPS stop working, and then a few seconds later water poured out of the avionics stack, marvellous!
Not quite all have an RNAV approach but the majority do.
Fun times!
