Tinny, priceless.

FRQ CB, You'll have to spend a bit of time trawling through the UK Immigration site about your status. If you're married to a UK citizen and have been for a couple of years then it's a matter of proving your relationship etc. It's not cheap though. Obviously, they do take it seriously so don't underestimate what you'll need to prove and documents you'll need.
While in theory, you can live any where in Europe because your wife is a UK citizen, you'll find it a lot easier when you have your own UK citizenship (5 years).

If you have a job in Australia, keep it for the time being. There's nothing stopping you from starting the theory (I recommend Bristol). At the moment, the job front is pretty dire in the UK (and Europe) with airlines collapsing. My tip (if you're serious) is to plan to hit the UK 2010. Property prices are falling (darn it!!) but should stabilise after 2009.
The medical is slightly different, make sure you're don't have double vision or colour blind.

2012 is the London Olympics.

The full process of license conversion can be found on the CAA's site under "LASORS".
