Ad-Astral - comments, experiences
I am looking for somewhere in WA to do my MECIR (converting foreign ATPL) early in the new year and have narrowed it down somewhat with Ad-Astral being the top of my list. Just looking for thoughts and experiences of this training school both good and bad.
Thanks

I really enjoyed it there. They were a bit busy and had a spate of unserviceabilities but the staff handled it well (it is the people who make the difference). They'll work out a schedule based on what you need rather than sticking to a strict syllabus.
Just curious, which ATPL do you hold? Have you lined up some work?

Did my initial and six renewals there and can honestly say I never had an instructor who was not 100% professional.

Thanks for the reply guys, sounds like a solid bet for my training then. I currently have a JAR ATPL and have been working in Europe for 9 years and it is time to come home. I am in the hold pool for one airline in OZ but obviously need to get all my OZ/NZ licences back up and running before I can start, just wish I had finished my IR in Australia before leaving all those years ago.

CIR renewal@ Ad-astral
Hi guys, was searching for the best place to do my renewal in WA and came across Ad-Astral. Came in here, did a search and from what Ive read so far, Im heading to Ad-Astral. And with being based in Perth International, I assume there won't be any en route, therefore saving cost, since all the aids are already there. Is that true? by the way Im from Singapore and did my initial in adelaide.
Cheers

I had a friend come from overseas to convert to an Australian ATPL. He was treated quite poorly by Ad Astral. The Duchess they use was unservicable twice, the last occasion for around four days. The testing officer they used then was busy on a 1900 ground school. My friend who was on leave, was told to wait another two weeks. Consequently, no MECIR, no ATPL during his leave but still a hefty bill for his trainning to date.
They would not cross hire another Twin nor use another instructor/ Testing Officer.
This was in late 2005. I have heard numerous good reports since, perhaps this was one off bad experience.
Cheers

A renewal at Ad-Astral usually consists of a Perth 2 departure to rotto for an NDB and assy circuit, followed by some airwork to the west of rotto (limited panel and the like) then inbound to Perth for the ILS.
Great mob very professional and the duchy was recently refurbed, they also have 2 x ATC810 sim's with all the required gear.
