FTDK to fly again!

Hallelujah!

The Forktailed Dr Killer has emerged at last from its 3.5 mth-long 100 hrly.

The new Maintenance Release has been issued! Yay!

The normal 100 hrly service took 1 day to complete - but the other stuff took forever!

Electric fuel pump - overhauled
Flap motor - overhauled
Flap acuators - overhauled
Gear motor - overhauled

Oh, yeah - and I had a bit of cancer treated in the magnesium ruddervators. That 2 or 3 day job took 2 months - but they did a fantastic job.

While all that was going on I sent the Garmin 430 to the States to have the TSO146a upgrade done and have to take the FTDK to Cairns tomorrow to have the antenna, antenna cable and annunciator panel replaced.

There are a heap of GA aircraft grounded in YBTL waiting on bits to be serviced or replaced as required under CASA's new interpretation of maintenance requirements. One A36 looks like being out of the air until the end of the year awaiting supply of new parts from Beech.

Aircraft, and aircraft components, are to be maintained and serviced as per the manufacturer's recommendations - meaning 2000 hrs or 10 years for some things and less for others, rather than the previous "on condition".

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the application of CASA's "new" policy on this, but one owner up here was ramped recently and has now received a very detailed and lengthy letter from CASA making their obligations as Registered Operator very clear in relation to maintenance - as per the above.

Gonna be some expensive 100 hourly's coming up! The FTDK seems to have got off lightly!

I think I do............

When you get yours built (and when you get your priorities in the right order & stop trying to please Mrs Stanley with house extensions or whatever) we might be able to get The FTDK & CC in their Bo's ....... and have a race somewhere..... do a 100 hrly and fly back!

We'll be back for dinner somewhere, they will be looking for a real estate agent....

I wish this would get sorted out once and for all. Right now, whether you get your MR issued or not seems to depend on which state you have your 100hrly in, which LAME you go to and which CASA field inspector that person is subjected to. Apparently, they all use the same CASA regs! Rediculous situation.
