A Terrible Thought Enters My Head........
Not content with owning a yacht, I'm wondering about aircraft ownership. I think I've fallen in love with the Yak 18T, since I saw one at YSWH a few years ago.
Anyone know much about these beasts?

yes the 3 "F" s, don't do it 'Sunfish', we don't want another poor & destitute plane owner here Like you said yourself, "A terrible thought"
I was contemplating recently to buying a plane, but fortunetly I was saved by a few in here !

Owning a boat will have acustomed you to spening a lot of money on a hobby. Owning your own aeroplane will be no different. A little more costly maybe.
My theory is you are a long time dead. Give it a go.

just do it
sunfish, if you can afford it, get a YAK it'll be heaps of fun.
I recently took the plunge and couldn't be happier. Do your research, negotiate hard (it's a buyer's market), and start just jumping into your own aeroplane whenever you wish...

Yak 18T
Been a fan of these beasties for a few years myself since reading a pommy mag with an 18T, 4 up doing loops, though when I'm suitably insane I think I'll be going down the 52 route, maybe a 52TW.
Also seen an 18 W with a one piece bubble canopy, cleans it's looks up and looses its military image a little.
Being an "experimental " category aircraft has some legal issues for touring which I assume being a 4 seater you'd be thinking of doing rather than just aero's but you'd be best talking with the likes of Lindsay Sinclair @ Redstars, he's put a few on the local registar and would be worth a chat.
Too much fun to be had and as has been said we're a long time dead.
Do it !

Sanity aside, I gotta say I like the look of the Yak-18, looks like it has plenty of room for 4 'fair dinkum' blokes/sheilas, unlike their American counterparts who expect everybody to be a pre-pubescent waif...
PS: There is a company that advertises in Aviation Trader (can't remember the name), that specialises in importing Yak's!

Unfortunately they aren't legal in aero's with 4 POB.
If you can afford one with the price of fuel the way it's going, good luck to you. A mate got one recenty, around $150k from memory.
