Nomad good advice thanks, the trip is a little way off so details won't be complete for a while
Somebody used the term "cashed up pilots" the reason they might be cashed up is because they have learnt how to keep their cash and probably other peoples in their own wallet.
Did'nt think of Daru for customs but Moresby is well within range for most lighties so might stick with that
Is the aero club at Moresby a good place to park at, are they friendly and is security ok ?

PNG Airfield Info

Airfield information publications as used by ADF aircraft when flying in PNG can be found here. Click on "products" in the left hand column, then you can download a PDF copy of the relevent publications. En Route Supplement Regional (ERSR) is for larger, generally sealed strips around the provincial capitals e.g. Moresby, Madang, Goroka, Hagen, Nadzab, Chimbu, Girua etc. Tactical Airfield Guide Regional (TAGR) has the smaller more challenging strips for the adventurous ones amongst you. Gotta have the right ride though!

Link is working now!

BTW, you can also download IAL procedures and aerodrome charts for the larger airfields on the same site. They are found in Terminal Regional West (TERMRW). Also has the PNG equivalent of AIPs in the Flight Information Handbook International (FIHI) and General Planning International (GPI) books. Has all the rules and some handy info on international flight procedures and entry requirements.

Is anyone else having trouble downloading those documents? I'm not aware of there being a password for that site. If there is I certainly don't know it!

Schmacko,

Right you are - I didn't check it myself, have only accessed that particular document from the intranet before. I guess the RAAF pays some sort of subscription to get hold of the plates, and doesn't want sneaky people like us getting them for free! The rest of the documents should be good to go though.

Chimbu, agreed, Kikori is usually the plughole of weather in that area and is not likely to be helpful as a weather option - wasn't specially pointing it out as such. Just that if they decide to go coastal from Daru to Moresby it is one of the spots nearby along the way.

Strip condition has been good at Baimuru and Balimo recently but then we are in the 'drier' time of year for that area (notice I didn't say dry - it's hardly ever dry in the true sense of the word up here as many can attest!).

The name Phil at Baimuru is not ringing any bells so I'm either ignorant or the fellow has seen the light and moved on - I'm guessing the latter...!

Aeroclub will be fine for parking however you may want to talk to the customs guys as they usually hang further down the apron around Air Niugini. Most aircraft will go there and clear customs before moving to the other end of the airport for parking. Due to space and depending on the number of aircraft it could be difficult to do that and it may be easier to just get them to come to you at the aeroclub.

Phil owned (?) Baimuru Trading. Used to have a orange beast registered P2-BMU which was ex P2-SEH, but sold it about a decade ago. However reading the Post Courier online a couple of years ago he was still there. Don't know about now.

I might stand to be corrected but I don't think there's an e-mail address for the Aero Club. I see that you've posted an enquiry on www.pngbd.com and think that will probably achieve a better result albeit, perhaps, just a phone nr.

Listed in PNG white pages as 'South Pacific Aero Club' - phone 0011 675 325 4885 if you're calling from Australia.

Thanks for the number guys and geeup I will advise outcome of phone call ?
We are still at the beginning of the planning stage although the flight plan is finalised. To date the trek companies are ok with the shortened version of the trek being in at kokoda and out at Efogi and when we get a confirmed date I will contact the aeroclub to enquire about parking and security for the 7 days that we are there. One of the problems has been compacting it all into 14 days from Adelaide with a reserve for weather but we seem to have achieved it now and those involved are looking forward to the event. Probably what we will now do is look to increase the numbers involved to be a Twin Otters worth out of Moresby.

Thanks again....Schmacko
