Whatever happened with NPD, I see it appears to still be on the register.
Is it being repaired?
Was it written off?
Any pics available of its accident?

VH-NPD had its accident on 11 July 2006 at Nguiu, Bathurst Island, NT.

During the take-off run the pilot reported that the aircraft did not
respond to control back pressure and failed to rotate. The pilot aborted take-off and the aircraft ran off the end of the runway and into a ditch. The nosewheel was pushed up into the fuselage and props were damaged (and possibly engines). CASA reported the aircraft as "substantially damaged".

I searched Google to find a photo of the aircraft after the accident. There is a photo on page 4 of this newsletter:
http://www.tilg.nt.gov.au/council/co...20pg%201-6.pdf

Just because it is still registered doesn't mean it will fly again. An aircraft can sometimes stay on the register for years after being written-off, before CASA gets around to deregistering it. There are numerous errors in the register, including aircraft that show as being registered years before they were actually built, incorrect manufacturer serial numbers (eg. military serial being used instead of manufacturer's), wrong aircraft model names, etc.

Regards,
David

I wish there were more pictures around, it really doesn't look that bad in that picture. I've seen worse damage fly again. I really expected to see the nose looking more like the A340 at toulouse.

Question

the aircraft did not
respond to control back pressure and failed to rotate.
David; Do you have any information on the results of the investigation?

I obtained that line from the CASA Flight Safety Digest list of accidents, published a couple of months after the accident. I have not been able to find any other details or accident reports in the websites of ATSB or CASA.

David

Thanks for that David.

Think that was a different incident Wing Root, but it does make you wonder on the position of the trim wheel in this incident.
