CPL Nav exam - SARTIME

Hi, I sat the CPL Nav exam last week and failed (68% )... I've hit the books and think I'll be fine this time round but there is still one question I cant find an answer to...

Went along the lines of this -

You are at YWDA. What frequency would you cancel you SARTIME on?

I assume its on the PCA somewhere but I just cant figure it out...

Thanks guys -

Not on any Flightwatch frequency!

There'll be nobody home.

Hi,
I used to hate those sorts of questions because there isn't always a clear cut answer, did you have a look on the erc for a flightwatch frequency? I thought sartimes were preferably cancelled by phone anyway if you carried one on a VFR plan.

Start at ERSA GEN - FIS 3 it will take you through the steps, as FTDK says not much point trying flightwatch though.

Yeah obviously flightwatch is going to be a no go if I was intending on using it in flight, however for the exam purposes I assume its still a valid answer...

The exams are supposed to reflect the latest changes in regulation however flightwatch is unavailable via NOTAM so I would assume that it still regulation and therefore still valid?

Incidentally I have found that tiny tiny*little box marked Flightwatch on the ERC so it appears that may be the one I'm after

Thanks...

HF

I had a similar question for somewhere in QLD... Read the question carefully as it may stipulate you are on the ground where Flight watch can only be contacted in the circuit area. The answer was one of the HF frequencies displayed on your PCA chart.

Flightwatch unavailable?

Erm, the NOTAM ends with:

FROM 09 250643 TO 09 280100 EST
MON TO FRI
2200-0100

So that's only for three hours a day, Mon to Fri.

Still not good enough though.

Flightwatch on HF

only from having been there - HF 3461, 6565 or 8822. With 6565 usually the primary. ( as per PCA )

The CASA exam questions will not take into acount NOTAMs. If the question did indeed ask about SARTIME they want to know FLIGHTWATCH. If the question was SARWATCH you need to check area frequencies and confirm VHF is available on the ground, otherwise HF.

You are allowed to take the AIP into the exam for CPL Nav. Simply READ the paragraphs on SARTIME and SARWATCH as required by the question and answer IAW the paragraph. No need to memorise anything much at all for NAV exam, except perhaps the 1 in 60 rule. Most other answers are in the references you are allowed to take in.

If you haven't used Bob Taits book to study I suggest you may like to take a look at them as they are the easiest texts to understand and a lot of the practice questions are as close as they can be to the exam questions.

Cheers

Exclamation Cityslickers

Every one has a mobile phone grafted to their ear. I'd use it.
Zoolander, don't think your little mobile will work too well on the ground at Windarra. Unless it's a Satphone. Atop the nearest hill will just get you in CDMA/NextG coverage

Well the answers have pretty much been covered. I'll give you some advice about re-sitting failed exams. Even though according to CASA the exams generate randomly from my experience with doing CASA exams on the second attempt is the exam you get is even more harder than the first one and you wish you got it right the first time! So make sure you study everything. CASA loves playing with your mind

I had to do a re-sit of Air Leg many years ago as I missed out by one question, and I got the same bloody exam!! Bugger, I didn't know which one I'd gotten wrong so I had to slave away through the whole bloody thing.

Anyhow I passed it the second time and haven't done an Air Leg or any licencing exam for that matter, since, TF.

Regards.

Expect questions re SARTIME to disappear in the not too distant future. Upper Managment (by upper I mean TALL) at AsA think they are VERY close to having them scrapped. Too expensive and AsA don't have the manpower to carry on the service.

recently completed this exam and remember this question but changed to cooktown. what wilcome said, you`ll need to read it carefully...

basically it said on the ground at YCKN to cancel sartime, found the answer pretty easily with the junk i was allowed to take in, maps, ersa and aip. have to agree about bob tait books, easy to follow and straight to the point.

this is a pretty small junk of the exam, what else did you have trouble with?
