Esperance aerodrome(s) !

Can anyone give me the good oil on aerodromes at Esperance?

I understand that the main strip is 25 km out of town but the aeroclub have a strip closer to town.

Myrup fly-in estate is closer to town with a couple of gravel strips in good shape. Easy to see from the air and must be about 3 miles or so north east when you are looking for it.
Dunno about juice, you used to have to go to YESP for it.

Recommend Myrup - really friendly, helpful folk who will have you in for cuppa before you know it. A quick taxi ride into town. Some very interesting home building going on there too. No fuel when I went but ESP not far and quite user friendly. Which way are you going Doc? You might like to name some of those massive holes in the ground if you go straight accross the middle!

Dont think you'll see many mines in Esperance as it isn't a mining town.

Beautiful beaches none the less - even nicer than qld - to look at anyway . Pity the water's freezing and full of sharks.

Got business in Perth - seemed like a good excuse to have alook at that part of the world. Red Bull just happens to be on as well.

Going : Townsville - Isa - Alice - The Rock - Leonora (where I hear that Wiz gives away free fuel - have my own pump!) - Jandakot - Esperance - Forrest - Coober Pedy - Birdsville - Longreach - Townsville.

That's about 12 hrs each way in the FTDK.

Jabawocky and SWMBO are coming along for the ride.

Well, actually, I think Jaba is planning to teach me a few things!

Yes, I will be on the lookout for previously unnammed geographical features to add to Lake Forktailed Doctor Killer.

Mt PPruNe maybe or The PPruNegles !

I did my GFPT at Myrup fly-in estate in the small C150 aerobat there with "The Aeroplane Company" the instructors there are semi-retired but are the best I have ever had, i wish i stayed to finish my PPL there instead of putting up the the young cocky instructors at Jandakot that care more about instructors than their students.

Yes the people there are very friendly, and there is fuel available in drums that you must wheel out of the small tin shed next to TAC's building there, when i was there it was a small donger which was one of the first buildings as you came into the strip off the main road, but they have built/building a new club house.. just ask or one of the TAC instructors for fuel if you need to refuel from there..

If it's a nice day, make sure that you grab a car and visit Cape Le Grande National Park.

Also, if you want an interesting experience, get in touch with Eyre Bird Observatory on the coast south of Cocklebiddy and stay there for a night. A very interesting place (same building as Eucla but still standing!) with very basic accommodation. The untouched beaches of the Bight are a hundred metres away and at that time of year whales, penguins, seals and turtles are all visible there. The caretakers will pick you up from Cocklebiddy (45mins by 4WD).

Cocklebiddy! Now there's agod forsaken place. Nice name, rough roadhouse/camp ground, or it was when I stayed there some years ago.

Hasn't changed much Claret, still one of the less desirable stops along the Eyre Hwy.

Yes Stallie, but not everyone can be guaranteed of enjoying the same experience you had at Cape Le Grande.

I also know of a place near Esperance called Munglinup, the people that bought a farm area there, i won't say who, but i know them personally - are planning on putting in 2 airstrips there and make it into a fly-in estate type thing, or a place where you can spend a week there or something, kinda like a little resort/motel kind of setup

but this is maybe later in the year, or even next year.. :P
