How will REX and Qlink F/O's get command?

Sorry, think this has been done in another thread but couldn't find it. If you know the thread please post it.

Otherwise, with REX and QLINK dropping Multi Min's, how will a SAAB F/O with under 500 multi hours get a command?

They will probably recruit low-time pilots for the F/O giggs and keep them there forever with no hope of getting command time REX will look worldwide for Captains and bring them to Australia. The F/O will get with REX for not promoting within and leave starting the cycle over again. The oversees Captains will realise they are not getting a good deal in Australia after a while and will leave in droves back to better paying jobs oversees. Then Virgin Blue will pounce on REX's woes and buy them out creating a regional arm to their business!

Just my conspiracy theory

Question

...how will a SAAB F/O with under 500 multi hours get a command?
I don't know REX's circumstances but is the answer somewhere along the lines of....."The same way that QF F/Os with under 500 multi command ultimately get a command on 767 or 737".

While agreeing with the last few posts, I suggest having a look at the requirements in CAO 82.3 Appendix 4 where the minimum aeronautical experience for a Pilot in Command of an RPT operation in other than high capacity aircraft is set out. There is no corresponding minimum aeronautical experience requirements for high capacity operations.
I imagine that these requirements were put in place when single pilot ops were the main domain of low capacity operations.
Funnily enough, para 1.1 of CAO 82.3, the opening paragraph, says that "this section applies to certificates authorising charter operations and aerial work operations".
Maybe nobody with any knowledge read what they had written after the cut and paste from CAO 82.1.
So on the basis of the minimum requirements, it is up to the relevant company to put a training regime in place to ensure they have the right product when it is needed. Nothing too hard in that except to have the will, as others have noted in this thread.
However, the evidence seems to show the contrary, particularly for the above 5700kg types.

There is nothing in CAO 82.3 Appendix 4 that can not be met if an RPT operator whether low or high capacity complies with CAR 5.40. Note that I have highlighted the ICUS component.

Aeroplanes exceeding 5700 kg MTOW

Air transport pilot (aeroplane) licence

2000 hours total experience as a pilot, that includes:

Command (multi-engine aeroplane) instrument rating

500 hours as pilot in command (or acting as pilot in command under supervision) on multi-engine aeroplanes under the I.F.R.;

and

50 hours as pilot in command (or acting as pilot in command under supervision) on the aeroplane type;

and

100 hours experience as a pilot on night operations.

Wasn't there a requirement for a 150 hours ICUS (max) for command on Low Cap AOC for aircraft above 5700kg?

ie; 500 hours hours multi command of which 150 hours may be ICUS. Thought I read that somewhere. Anyone care to comment?
