Akuna Seaplanes

Anyone know the story on this outfit? Pretty widespread down the East coast. Anyone done the proffesional sea plane pilot course with the 4 months paid employment at the end? Sounds pretty good, although I guess you are getting paid the money you gave them in the first place. How many hours would you expect in the 4 months?
Any info would be appreciated.

Akuna

Not bad crew of guys they have three aircraft at the moment the 4 month paid employment must be new and it will be like 230 after tax. They have lost three or four pilots in the last six months so ask yourself why. If your going to nows a good time as it is when they get busy.

funny all their planes are up for sale...
and also the agency!!
would you pay for a AUD$16990.00 Professional Seaplane Pilot Course to a company that is up for sale??

I know nothing about these people, so my doubts could be wrong... but be carefull!

I agree it sounds alittle risky. I guess thats the reason for the background check first. Not sure if floats is something I wish to persue at the moment anyway, but one day.......

Akuna

I started with Akuna over a month ago, great outfit and great mob. To answer some questions on this thread:
  1. The people that have left, two now have jobs in the Maldives thanks to their time in Akuna
  2. Port M, for sale is as a Franchise still under the Akuna fold.
All in all, a great place to work and fantastic place to live. more than happy to answer any questions.

Sicamore I have serious question if you can't swim will they still hire you? I end up doing my wet drill training in the shallow end of the pool whenever I start with a new employer! Will that be enough for a sea plane job?

I know and have flown alot with one of the blokes there and you couldn't learn from better.
Very experienced crew from a wide range of aviation backgrounds, all makes for a balanced place to learn, I would think.

Swimming

Paper Planes, if you can tread water and swim at least 20m in water deeper than you can stand in, you'd probably pass muster. As part of the 20.11 reqs, we need to do a wet lifejacket demo. That's really the only test you will go through. No one has asked me if I can swim or asked for proof.

Really, I guess it all depends on what you are comfortable with, taking into account that you'll be landing on water dozens of times a day, and if anything happens you'll be the man in charge.
