Challenger 604 In Australia?

Can anyone tell me of any Australian operators of the Challenger 604?

The aircraft registry on the CASA site says 'none found' but at least one charter operator offers the aircraft on its site. While I appreciate they may (probably) would sub-contract if they got a booking ie, the aircraft may not actually be their own, this suggests there must be at least one on the VH register.

Anyone?

Not sure about the 604. But quite a few Bizjets in Australia are on the 'N' (USA) register.

Then again, it's not unknown for some Charter Brokers to 'offer' aircraft types they don't have access to. Looks good on a website thou.....

Funnily enough there are about 5 or so called charter operators who reckon they have a CL604 available!! Most of whom have nothing more than a PA-31 on the actual AOC!! Not quite sure what the legalities are but it sure makes for a pretty cool looking website, disguising the fact that you are just another shonky bugsmasher GA operation flying aircraft built in the 1970's.

As for the CL 604, the government has a few, above mentioned in Perth and there is one floating around the east coast as well somewhere I think it's based in Sydney.

Did the 604 VH-LAM previously owned by BHP Billiton go overseas when sold or is it still in the country?

Promotion??

Neville N
Yes, there are some operators who set up web sites and other advertising pretending to be jet operators when they are not. They fool the newbies and part of the public, (for a while) but mainly they are fooling themselves, and demonstraing to the industry that they are not trustworthy.
I also saw an ad for flying training from ab initio to jet pilot, that seemed to be from a person who contracted out the whole thing to different organsiations.
Think he has gone now.
This industry too often confuses wishful thinking with reality.

Bushy and Neville,
Can i ask do any of your 2 have your own AOC? If not have you every tried to get one? If you do then.............ok

The reason more of these agent brokers are popping up is because it is getting harder and harder for new people to get one. The cost is going up and to give you an example it took us over 10 months to get ours.

There is nothing wrong with these brokers / agents or what ever you call them (as long as they are following the rules as there are some dodgy ones out there) Give them at least a bit of credit on the basis thet they are trying to earn a living and the are doing it to the best they can at the given time.

If you have access to aircraft that you dont own or have on your AOC then thats fine as long as it is being operated in accordance with the owners operations manual and AOC. WE have had operator operating under ouw AOC in the past and the reality is they are really doing flights for us under own name. Not under their name

If they dont or if they are not following the rules then fk them off we dont need them.

just my thoughts

Thanks for the replies folks. I suspected as much about some operators trying to big themselves up with non-existent aircraft. Not a huge problem if they are able to sub-charter to someone who actually HAS one but a bit more honesty wouldn't go amiss.

What am I saying? This is GA

Any more info on the east coast aircraft? Does anyone know the reg or operator please? VH-LAM is now allocated to a C404 according to the register.

And what the hell is a Portuguese (CS-MAC) registered aircraft doing based in Oz? Long way from home. Then again, knowing the Portuguese CAA, INAC, I'd do that too. You think CASA are bad? Maaaaate

PS The register search engine is hopeless. If I search by aircraft type I get nothing, Bombardier reveals another one but not VH-ZZH. Rubbish

There is nothing wrong with the registry it's just that you were not entering the correct search parameters. Make sure that when you enter the aircraft type that it is the correct one, as what aircraft are commonly called are not necessarily what the legal ID of it are. If you searched under CL-604 or CL600-2B16 you would find that there are in fact 3 Challengers on the register being flown by two top end charter companies. Anyone else who advertises having a 604 are just pretenders.

As for the whole broker thing, I don't think people care if you say your a broker who advertises that he will organise a charter for you. The issue in this country is that people have websites implying that they have every bizjet in Australia parked on their tarmac. I am surprised that CASA haven't stepped on it yet. From the websites I saw when I was in charter I personally thought some of these charter brokers were walking a very fine line given they only have a piston charter AOC with a website full of bizjets. God only knows where the lawyers will start if the flight ended in tragedy.

Well haul me over the coals and bugger me with a towbar. There's me entering 'CL 604' when the search engine only responds to 'CL-604'.

Seriously, that's a bit feeble. Wonder if the people responsible are the same ones that have been unable to note my change of address eight itmes in the last seven years
