"For a two to four seater low wing with plenty payload speed and range it's hard to beat Grumman Tiger"

Yeah, but they're such a dinky little aeroplane. I wouldn't walk past a C172 to get in a Tiger. The 172 doesn't pretend to be something its not!

Did the outback tour thing a few years ago with the spouse and 18 month old sprog, in a C182. Yer haven't lived until yer change a crappy nappy at A100 halfway between Windorah and Birdsville

C182 is a good mount for that trip - high wing gives good vis + shade on the ground; performs adequately at 130 or so kt, plenty of legs with 320lt, land and take off anywhere.

Here's some "real" figures for a Bonanza (from yesterday), thought someone might find it of interest!

V35B, IO520, gammijectors, shadin fuel flow, no multi-cylinder analyser.

TOW 1542 (Max) [full fuel (284 l) + 316 kg]

YBTL-YROM (3.0 hr) -YSCB (3.3 hr)

Climb 2500/full throttle
Typical Cruise - 2300/full throttle (21" ) at 10,000': 48 l/hr, 135 IAS, 161 TAS
Descent 2300/21-23"

977 nm, 6.3 hr, 330 l, 155 kts av GS, 52 l/hr av

0.5 hr refuelling stop in Roma - for 6.8 hr total travel time

I suspect you could get the fuel flow down further with a multi-cylinder and running LOP, but I don't so I run it 25 ROP - as per the book.
