Realistic minimums

Gday all,
I am interested to know what the realistic minimums for Qantas, Virgin and Jet Star are? Is turbine experience a big plus like with other carriers in the world? does it have alot to do with the age/experience relationship? any info would be much appreciated. Cheers

Realistic minimums

Now class, everybody repeat after me.

One minimum
Two minima

Whether or not they are realistic is a totally separate matter!

well VB have lowered theirs from 1500TT 500Multi to 1000TT 500Multi
so at a guess, somewhere between 1000 and 1500 should cover it.
Bring on the shortage I say!!!!!!!!

Dr,

Actually you'll find both are acceptable as a plural.

Thanks for the info regarding the minima.
I really dont mean to be particular to my case but I've been overseas for quite some time and as such im a bit out of the loop.would these numbers be similiar to a new hire at VB or J*?

2200 total
900 turbine
500 multi command (400 multi turbine command(BE20)),
500 multi crew
50 light jet
Australian citizen

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

When a word is adopted from one language into another (i.e. Latin to English), it is subject to the grammatical syntax of the new language.

So it is minimums, not minima.

Excuse me for being pedantic, but you started it

Putting the english lesson aside for the moment. Does anyone know how many people are or know of anybody who has taken Jetstar up on their "cruise first officer" positions?

Reason I ask is that I would like to target both EAA and J* but with both requiring endorsment fees, and one being a significantly larger fee than the other I would like to hear peoples opinions on the topic. Particularly with reference to the the rumours of the J* terms and conditions. Coming from GA its a big call to dig up 30k for an airbus endo.

Any sensible opinions would be much appreciated.

F. Nut - As far as EAA goes it seems to now actually be Qantaslink wide recruitment process i.e. You are allocated to Sunstate or EAA as requirements dictate. I think they try to accommodate your base preference but utimately it is where the vacancies are. That said, if Sydney floats your boat then usually there will no problem as there always seem to be vacancies there - Melbourne is more popular thus you can expect to wait for a bid. Interestingly if you wanted Canberra you could go straight there on the 400 as I have heard that guys have resigned from Eastern to go on the 400 at the bottom of the Sunstate seniority list as no one wants to move to CBR from Queensland.

As for the endorsement cost - well in the long run I guess you would be ahead at Jetstar but I have a feeling that pay for endorsement won't be around long in the current climate.

According to the Oxford Dictionary both "minima" and minimums" are acceptable.

Because English is an evolving language, with word useage changing over time, most publications have an in-house style guide to resolve conflicts like these. Perhaps we need a Pprune style guide?

The purists will continue to insist on correct Latin plurals and indeed they would seem more correct to me (however who am I to argue with the might of the Oxford Dictionary).

Sometimes only the Latin plural is correct - have you ever heard of alumnas (perhaps alumnae is more familiar)?

Similiarly;
Criterion Criteria (not criterions)
Addendum Addenda
Alumnus Alumni

See here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_plural for a fairly good discussion of plurals in the English language.

Back to the topic though, the minima quoted by the various companies are exactly that - you don't get in the door without them, once inside the recruitment process it is up to you to shine. I wouldn't not apply just because I barely met the criteria. Get in there and have a go.

Interesting to note that the regionals are drastically reducing their criteria. The worm may be turning.

Yeah, but I am right as usual!

I am a classical scholar - not one of you post-modern, long-haired, keetch eating, tree hugging, green hippy types!

I'm thinking that as usual those with the considerable Jet-A time will be the first to go. My feeling is that there isn't a too great many with great amounts of turbine time not on the way somewhere else.
