Can anyone recommend a motel, etc, near Jacksons, with car hire available on site, for a couple of days stay ?

The Granville is a bit on the dodgy side compared to the other options I would say. Last time I stayed there last year I had to put up with mozzies and sheets that looked like they may have missed a wash or two.
Hard to go past the Gateway Hotel for proximity to Jacksons and value for money. They will also do free airport transfers. That would be my pick.

The Gateway hotel. close, clean and pretty good people.
Don't stand in the driveway while chatting though. I nearly got killed by a freefalling mango. The little bar just under the steps on the way into the foyer can get pretty lively too.
Airways is OK as well.
