GA in Papua New Guinea

Hi there all you PNG pilots (or Ex PNG'ers)

I have family out there (missionaries) and I hope to visit sometime next year. They're based in New Britain. Kokopo, I think. Does anyone know what it's like renting aircraft (light singles) there. Is it even possible with a JAR PPL?

Even if you could direct me to some useful websites; my searches aren't proving productive. Does their CAA even have a website? I couldn't find one!

Any info or advice is good. Cheers.

Pigdog.

Completey impossible....there are no such establishments in PNG. The only aircraft in PNG are commercially operated charter/airline aircraft...plus maybe two privately owned.

You're 10 yrs to late...actually probably closer to 12+ yrs since there were any aircraft available to private hire in PNG, and that was in Port Moresby...the last for hire light aircraft in East New Britian was in Rabaul maybe 25 yrs ago.

PNG is many things and still holds a place of deep affection for me...but 'progressive' is a adjective that should not appear in a sentence, on a page or even in a book describing PNG.
