From the Uk to Aus.

Hi all

I'm trying to find someone who has gone from flying commercially for a passenger airline in the uk on a uk licence to leaving the uk and flying commercially for a similar commercial passenger airline in australia.

Basically i am trying to find out what i would need to do in terms of licences etc in order to be in the position of getting such a job in australia?

I hope someone can help.

Many thanks

Aerofoil, I suspect you arent going to get many charitable answers, as there are loads and loads of guys with 3, 4, and even 5K hours blasting around in Oz who have barely had the opportunity to even sniff some JET A1.

For what its worth, I hope this gives you a little better idea of what you will encounter

Thanks for the reply Haughtney. I have heard that is the story over in aus. Lets say years and years down the line i have more than enough experience (if there is such a thing) what licences would i need to get having already got a uk ATPL? I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers by asking this so here's hoping i don't get shot down in flames with harsh replies!

Also Haughtney do you do 737 base check by any chance? Ifso i think you may have done mine!

Many thanks

Probably only a simple ATPL conversion.

Have you checked here: http://www.casa.gov.au/

Sorry Aerofoil, I am but a humble F/O...many years away from the lofty heights of being a trainer
Plus I wouldnt lower myself to flying those little piddly 737 things
(My first Jet was a 757...and now I think I'm downsizing to a 320/321...according to my present employer )

Haughtney.

I've sort of been that route albeit about 12 years ago. Licence conversion in God's Own was a damn sight easier than when I came back to the UK and jumped through the hoops here too.

I have to ask why you'd want to do this? It goes without saying I'd rather be back living in Ozland than here but there just isn't the work. It was once explained to me that anywhere between 50% and 70% of new CPL holders never actually get a flying job so you can see why there are so many high time people there punting around the bush in piston or (if lucky) turbo-prop aircraft. It'ss a highly competitive market.

The last thing the country needs is more pilots which might be a problem if you don't already have an Australian passport or right to reside. Putting 'Pilot' on your migration application is likely to lose you points rather than gain them.

On the other hand if you've another way in to the country and are prepared to travel the length and breadth of it looking for work, good luck.

Oh, and be prepared to change your name by deed poll to 'Pommy B@stard', in the nicest possible way of course
