Instructor Rating
Hi again guys, just after some info from those who have been there n done that before...
Apologies if I should have posted in the Instructors forum, but I need some local advice, not from people in Europe..
I'm very close to that long awaited CPL flight test and I'm starting to consider where I should go to get my junior instructors rating..
Has anyone done the course recently?
Im in the Sydney area but also willing to travel regional/interstate as I would like to do the course full time in minimal time.. what is the quickest timeframe I could complete the rating?
I've seen some places quote upwards of $12K for the rating.. can it be done cheaper without compromising my training? under 10K is my budget.. lets face it, its 50 hrs in a 150/152 plus some theory...
any information would be greatly appreciated, pm's are welcome too..
have a good week, cheers.

Make sure you do it in a school where there is a good chance of REAL employment at the end of it i.e lots of students (Usually the larger, busier schools). It may be worth paying a little extra if you can get a job at the end of it.
PM me if you want any more info!

Hi Propelled,
Have you tried Gostner Aviation (at Camden)?
Price should be about $10K and you get to train in a brand-new Jabiru J160 with glass cockpit.
Contact numbers are: (02) 4655 8455 or 0414 788 105.
Good luck.

hey thanks for the replys guys...
'over and gout', I'm not interested in finding a school that will give me a job after the course as I have some work lined up already... Thats why I'm trying to find a place with a good price but will not compromise on my training..
Aussie and hoping&wishing, thanks for your info too, will do some research.. has anyone else done the rating lately? doesn't have to be in sydney.. regional nsw/interstate...wherever..
cheers guys

Sorry, couldn't help noticing this alarming trend of people getting work lined up before finishing their training

Propelled,
Glad you could handle my humour. In all seriousness, get right into the theory when you do the rating. There is no better time to prepare detailed lessons and lesson aids and really get to know your stuff - it will be a benefit to yourself as well as your potential students (some do ask challenging questions and deserve good, correct answers). When you do get a question that stumps you for a time be honest and tell them you will take the question away and research a good way of explaining the answer (think of as many ways to explain it as possible) - this will usually be not only accepted but appreciated (and far better than fobbing them off). If you put in the effort with your briefing preparation it will also impress your instructors during the training (and being senior within the company they will probably have some say in whether you get a job with them). Your attitude during the rating will affect your job prospects - with no previous flying jobs behind you, often your flying school is contacted by possible first job employers.
Remember it is all about teaching - the better teacher you become the better an instructor you will be. Also, the average joe wants to have an enjoyable learning experience when coming along for his flying lessons - know how to get the mix right.
