Direct Air Darwin Engine Failure
What's this I hear that the other week one of Direct Air's Chieftain in Darwin had an engine failure?
Has anyone got any details?

I think what 520 is alluding too, is there will be the usual "Direct Air is crap" bashing on here, by a certain crew (because that's what they do best) from the DN area.
I hope we can keep it all civil and just accept that the engine failure is not as a result of the operator (well, we hope not), nor maintenance, but just that a part might have failed.
Another words, can we not bash up Directair,

How do you know how it failed? There is every chance it failed due to the operator or its maintenance. Especially if we are talking DA.

Ås far as i am concerned, people don't just "bash" companies for the sake of it, they do it because they are unhappy with them in some way or another. All those people can't be wrong.

No, you bash DA because they're new to the Darwin scene (relatively).
I have first hand experience with Direct Air as a customer, and can vouch for their product. I also have knowledge of the behind the scenes goings on, and was impressed with that as well.
From what I have seen, Direct Air are no better, nor worse than any other company up there.
Let me guess, you work for Hardy's??

. I'm just standing up to defend a company which you tend to bash over the slightest of events.

Do you know how the pilots at DA are treated like (and pay)?
Do you know their level of Checking and Training?
Do you know the amount of experience they have?
Do you know the particular history of the aircraft ?
If you cannot answer these questions, i suggest you stop defending DA and stick to your croissants and watching Austar on their plasma TV to tell us that they have a great product. You cant possibly say they're good or bad if you don't know the answers to the above q's.

Ohh well look, we have a team of Accident investigations and specialists in the field here now. First of all, an Air crash can happen to any organisation.
What has the pay or the treatment of a pilot have to do with an accident?
Check and training standards? Well its all under legal and insurance requirements...
Experience? Well, if history tells us anything, it says that anyone can stuff up; even highly experienced pilots are likely to cause an accident. As long as the training and qualifications are up-to-date the pilot is safe enough.
The history of the aircraft? we'll any charter organisation has a set of maintenance and legal requirements to follow so the aircraft can stay airworthy... the history has nothing to do with it, its just a matter of keeping the aircraft up to date with its maintenance and in compliance.
Problems associated with piloting in modern aircraft are:
-too heavy a workload associated with reprogramming flight management systems;
-too much heads-down time in the cockpit attending to the systems (pilots are encouraged to keep heads-up and focused on what is going on outside the airplane as much as possible);
-deterioration of flying skills because of over-reliance on automation;
-Increasing complacency, lack of vigilance, and boredom;
-lack of `situational awareness' when automated systems fail, making if difficult to identify and correct problems;
-reluctance to take over from automated systems even in the face of compelling evidence that something is wrong.
So why are you all bagging DA? I think it all comes down to jealousy ...jealouse jealouse, jealouse jealouse jealouse!!! ...
