Book style PPL
Gooday all,
I have had an Australian PPL since 1975.
Originally we were issued with book style licences and then this was replaced by a non photo plastic card licence the same size as a credit card. This is what I have now.
Now, the situation is that I have been living in Thailand for many years and have not kept up to speed with the latest style of licences used.
I am now in a situation where I would like to do some flying in Thailand and also work in the airline industry here so would therefore need to get the latest style licence.
I checked out the CASA website and found an article on Flight Safety Australia October 2000 entitled [COLOR="Red"]New look book style licence... From the pic in the article it is exactly the same as the one issued in the seventies.
Anyhow it sounds like the ducks guts for me because it is closer to ICAO standards than my card licence.....
My question is : Is this the latest style of PPL and does anyone know the procedure for changing to this style considering I'm out of the country ?
Thanks in advance.......Austhai

Perpetual???
So much for the "perpetual" licences. A different style of licence, issued by a different organisation. CAA, DOT,DCA, CASA?. It will be interesting to see what happens. Will they support licences issued by their predecessors???.

No it isn't the same as the earlier "book" version although the cover may look similar in a photograph.
Normally you would travel to a CASA office with your "old" licence and they would print you the new pages and then charge you $15 for the cover. The cover is considered a "security" item since Sept 2001 as it has the word pilot on it! This means that you have to ID yourself as a pilot to get one. With the new photo ID licence you also have to fill in a security check form.
Why don't you ask CASA what you should do, it is their problem to issue you a licence not yours. They will (must) tell you what you need to do.
Why ask on PPRUNE?
