JETSTAR INT.. pilot recruitment PATHETIC
I have never been so discusted to be part of an industry as we see happening currently in Australia with the current jet star international pilot recruitment process..
Explain to me how it can be legal, safe, responsible? to crew an airline where the majority have failed and/or do not meet the requirements for the mainline operation?
What a joke!.. and it is passanger safety in question.. would you really want to fly on an airline where the pilots are not competent enough to get in to the mainline product(for whatever reason), and yet are suitable to operate the low cost operation because they will work for nothing? and are essentially stealing mainline operations!!!!!..

Strange you didn't have a problem with this for the decades people who didn't pass the QF selection were flying red tails for National Jet, Impulse and Jet Connect.
But as soon as it starts impinging on YOUR t&cs...
Add to that the number of QF piots who have failed selection for the RAAF and other airlines, and I guess the only people actualy qualified to fly are Buck Rodgers and Chuck Yeager

QF's recruitment process is no more BS than anyone elses. I've been surprised by people who didn't get accepted for the RAAF. I've been surprised by people who didn't get accepted for QF mainline. And I've been surprised by people who DID get accepted for QF mainline (and the RAAF too for that matter)!
It's far from a perfect science. Even mainline has its fair share of, errr shall we say, "pilots that slipped in while recruitment were sleeping".
Now if the requirements are significantly lower than the 'norm' (whatever that is) for JQ Int, then that's a different story.

From the Jetstar website.

OR

Minimum 500 hours Pilot in Command (up to 250 hours may be ICUS).
NOTE: Glass cockpit and multi-crew experience preferred.
On the face of it, it would seem the standards for entry are higher at JETSTAR!!
However the barriers to entry may be less...
One last thing, your point about people doing the same work for less may be correct, but that is totally different issue to standards and recruiting.
If you want to talk about safety issues, the "I am better than you" attitude is as much a barrier to safety as any perceived inability to pass the Qantas testing, think about it, it's basic human factors/CRM stuff really.
I've said it before and I will say it again:
"Safety has no correlation to how much you are paid, it is more a function of your attitude".
Cheers, HH.

Take a big deep breath standard and have a lie down. You'll get over it. I think I could also have a go at arguing that if there hasn't been such a traditionally large discrepency in T & C's for so long between GA and the airlines, there wouldn't be this issue now. Perhaps it could be argued that if airline pilots and reps in the past had spent some time assisting GA to overcome poor T & C's, there wouldn't be such a huge gap now for the airline pilots to fall back into.

standard
What a tired, lame, argument......
Mainline are not the be all and end all of airline operators. They have good people, bad people, and inbetween people. The have incidents and accidents, just like the majority of other operators.
ps 5/10 for spelling and grammar

At the end of the day flying a a/c is a pratical job. You do not need to be Einstein to conduct a flight safely. All you do need however is common sense and to be a quick rational and practical thinker!
All this other bull"%&#@ is management/corporate red tape rather than what is needed to be a pilot!
Jet Stars recruitment seems fine. Conditions are less than their mainline counterparts but they will be the ones flying the shiney new jets! but the m ain thing about Jetstar is they seem positive and energetic towards their future. Qantas pilots seem bitter and twisted!

The point is not that the QF system is stupid, but that QANTAS thinks it is the best system that they can have for recruiting pilots. Therefore the pilots that get through the system are who QF want flying their aircraft.
With that in mind why would they then go and hire all the people that have failed their screening process???? It's insanity!! It makes their entire HR department look like fools. Why would they have all these processes in place with people working to find the best people they can to only then go and hire all the rejects??
Anyone from QF HR want to actually explain this situation??

BTW anyone describing Jetstar pilots as
all the rejects
No I was taking the QF viewpoint. They have often stood by their recruiting methods as being the best system for them.
Not saying that I think it's a good system or that Jetstar people shouldn't fly jets; just applying the QF logic that they have used in the past to the current circumstances. The current situation is not a logical stance given what they have said/done in the past.
