The Proteous was a Burt Rutan Invention. Was used out of the north as a high level atmospheric research aircraft studying monsoon Cb's

Hi Dave,
I think I know the 208, is it HLL?. Where was the photo taken? It looks nice and shiny, so maybe back in Airnorth days prior to going to CS??

G'day Dave, not sure whose van it is in pic one (maybe Slingairs) but the range in the background looks a lot like the Cockburn Range, the photo could have been taken from Home Valley Station (again looks familiar). Pic two is the King George falls followed quite obviously by the Bungles (dredging the memory but maybe coming up to Piccaninny gorge).

Hi capson, that link didn't work for me, can you just post the pix instead of the link?

Cheers.

Thumbs up

ABX,

As mentioned above, it’s a Scaled Composites Proteus which was in Cairns for a few days doing high altitude atmospheric research. It was pretty amazing seeing it in the flesh. You could be mistaken for thinking Luke Skywalker was going to jump out of the thing.

haughtney1 The Hedge, Sarcs,

It’s Slingair’s van KSA (with the crappy, slow 4 blade prop), and yep, the Cockburn Range in the Background. Emma Gorge is the airstrip. The reason it’s nice and shiny is because it’s had 5 or 6 of us slaving away with rags and tins of polish when there was no flying to be had over the wet…

I think the Bungles shot is Cathederal Gorge if memory serves me correctly. I used to see those damn domes in my sleep, but when I put that pic up yesterday I was struggling to remember where along the Gibb Face it was taken. What do they say about time healing all wounds?

B787......looks a lot like a Jabiru on Steroids

Sand it, fill the pinholes and sand again. Over to the paint shop!

Good for Boeing, and I'm sure it's great at doing what it is meant to do, but I'm disappointed in the appearance. They advertised something that looked like a space-age Constellation, and they've released a sort of bloated 767.

But it's nicer than any airliner I've ever designed, true enough.

Perhaps someone could explain this one

I took it in the Bombardier factory in Torronto Canada.
That is why they have grade 13 in Toronto (one r) Ontario. The rest of the country gets by fine with grade 12.

Originally Boeing were going to have the 787 all sexed up and try to get people excited about flying again. I think they had that weird tail on it and a few other things to make it look cool. (wasn't it supposed to be shark-like or something?) However the airline executives soon killed that off, all they wanted was an aeroplane in the cheapest possible manner. As a result most airliners these days look pretty similar, as that is the most cost effective aerodynamically efficient design. Just compare a 737, 767, 777, 787, A330, A320 head on.
