Yep, b. Exact numbers for digital gauges. eg: 98.6rpm

a, c & d for analogue gauges. (sweep needles or "digital" "analog looking" LED segments etc!)

Another question from 20 years ago. I would have said B then, but 20 years ago that was the issue. There's been a lot of innovation since to incorporate the advantages of analogue gauges into digital displays. The specific advantages of analogue gauges didn't last long after digital instruments came on the market, but I suppose someone forgot to tell CASA or they didn't see the need to update the question.

Try and put yourself back in time to answer the questions correctly.

Can you give an example of a digital display that incorporates advantages of an analogue display? I haven't seen any pure digital displays that have any analogue advantages. Perhaps you are talking about things like combined analogue/digital displays? If so, that is not what CASA are asking about, they want to know that you understand the disadvantage of a purely digital display.

Here's one. Engine's not running, but you can see the ambient oil temp and fuel QTY with white LED bar graph segments and the actual digital numbers displayed next to the others. You'll get the white LED segments wrapping around the green/yellow/red line arcs for quick reference.

So you get a digital analogue bar graph read out for quick reference "in the green" and the actual number displayed in the centre of each gauge.

That's just a hybrid analogue/digital guage. A pure digital readout still has the same problems it always has. CASA just want you to understand that, and, I guess, to then understand why analogue/digital type guages are good.
