I agree blueloo. Was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it.

Rather than waste any more time on this program, I suggest people read about this, and many other airliner accidents through a series of books called "Air Disaster" volumes 1, 2, and 3 by Macarther Job. (It's an Australian publication.)

ISBN 1 875671 11 0

They're compulsary reading for any pilot interested in flying for the airlines.

Each account is accompanied with detailed diagrams, printed versions of the CVR's, and photos.

Volume 1 chapter 18 is an intelligent but chilling account of this awful accident at Tenerife.

I've learnt many lessons through these books that I still carry with me every time I turn up for work.

Yes, spot on blueloo. My better half came in part way through & I'd said to her this show could run for 20 minutes on content, but it's fleshed out by repitition of the same clips. Did you notice that their "highly sophisticated" computer graphics were showing the aircraft as SUD models?

Not to mention use of "file footage" of the remotely controlled crash of a B720 many years ago. If the sophisticated computer graphics don't drive you nuts the accompanying "wooshing" noises will. "Grumpy Old Men" was much more interesting.

Cheers

Blueloo, you are right on the money. I had a copy of the "Seconds from Disaster" from Foxtel, it's the same show - same commentator, same "countdown clock". I thought it was a bit iffy when it first came on, actually, that it was called "Air Crash Investigations - the first series was "Investigation", singular. Trivial I know but perhaps including the 's' allows seven not to infringe copyright??

Can anyone tell me if the footage of people deplaning off the 747s was actually from Tenerife earlier in the day? Don't recall it, but i don't know the airport or anything, so if anyone can enlighten me...

I guess the original Cineflix series wasn't 'dramatic' enough for them - hence the additin of clocks and 'wooshing noises'

I was really hoping they might come up with a quality investigation - then again, it wouldn't rate, would it, and we all know that's soooo important!

Would really have loved to see an episode dedicated to UA232 Sioux City, Al Haynes), great example of good CRM in practise, and interesting as the the causes to boot.

Got home late and only caught the last 10-15 mins of the show before it ended and basically got the whole story in that.
I was thinking "then what did they show in the 45 mins apart from adverts ? "

Then it clicked.......... they keep repeating it over and over again.

Is this the last one for the season or are they showing another one next week ?........ usually they show the next episode for the next week but didnt notice anything last night.

I had been recording it (half watching) at the end the timer showed 28 mins out of the hour was actual show (and probably 10 was unrepeated!)

Think that was the last one, however a look at next week's tv guide shows "Seconds From Disaster" will be on - train accident I think....

Usual technique,

Fluff up 15 minutes of actual information, repeat ad nauseum.

The computer graphics are good as is the reconstruction but still maybe only 30 minutes of show.

It's been all over Foxtel forever as has "seconds from".

IMHO There's a danger of trivialising serious lessons and the chattering classes then think they are experts.

BBC Docco's

Is it the BBC that do documentaries on accidents? They're usually very well researched with factual information and the actual voice transcripts and black box data. Have found them very usefull.

The 're-constructions' this mob do remind me of the trash current affairs programs the punter loves to watch.

It seems they're trying to do a cheap copy of the BBC stuff for the quick bucks.

Have to agree..."tres ordinaire" show.

How many times do you have see the play button getting pushed on a tape recorder? Perhaps they forgot to change sides on the tape

New time slot

Well folks - looks like Air Crash Investigations has picked up huge ratings.

It has now been moved to prime time - Wednesday at 7:30pm.... is that channel 7 ???

Anyway, I think the next one I saw if I'm not mistaken was a Brasilia going down.

Enjoy watching.
