Is safety pilot time loggable?
Under the CAR's, co-pilot means any piloting capacity other than PIC. Also under privelages and limitations of CPL it states that the pilot may not FLY the aircraft unless endorsed on type etc.
Under the CAO's it states the CPL holder may log co-pilot time.
Now, the question that I'm sure will ruffle a few feathers is that can a CPL holder then act as a safety pilot on a single pilot a/c and be able to log co-pilot time assuming he has the required basic ratings (CIR etc)?

tt01,
Yes, can do ICUS (which is co-pilot time) or co-pilot on a single pilot aircraft, metro, B1900, B200 it would be required to have two pilots for RPT if more than 10 seats, single pilot aircraft.
As long as your a designated crew member on the flight, you would be a crew member other than the PIC, which is co-pilot.
Could be in a C150 or a 747-400, a second officer in QF will log co-pilot time for the entire flight in the bunk or at the controls, the PIC also logs PIC if at the controls or in the bunk.

In NZ you may not.
The reason..........because to act as safety pilot you do not need to be rated on the type being flown, however if you hold a current instructors and type rating you may log the time as instruction time.

Aviator X. Which presumably means if you log it as instructor time then you must be in command of the aircraft. So the poor bugger that asked you along as safety pilot can now not log his own time as command because there can only be one commander, right?
So the non-safety pilot logs what time? Copilot?
