Eastern Pilot Group progression into Qantas

Heard on the bloody big grape vine that the AIPA has told the new Eastern Pilot Group that they will get progression into main line if they jump from the AFAP. Anyone have any more info??

Yes

It will be up to QF management to decide whether integration happens. All AIPA can do is facilitate the process as an advocate for us. And no, they did not promise something they could not guarantee.

The AFAP is just about a dead duck with the Eastern pilots. And from word around the traps, Virgin and Jetstar, too. The majority have seen the AFAP for what it really is. Largely inactive. Instead of being proactive with their customers (us), and asking us what they can do to get us to remain members, they send out boring old epistles espousing all the good they've done.....Trouble is, there's not one single achievement they can lay claim to. They are the Bart Simpsons of the industrial world (underachievers, and apparently proud of it).

They use the same old tactic, whether it be with us, Jetstar or Virgin: "Accept the EBA offer, it's the best you can expect". Yes, we've all heard it before folks. And we (Eastern) pay these guys in excess of $400k per year? Get off your arses and do some work AFAP!

Instead of presenting a unified front on wages, they allow - no, encourage the company us play off against each other for the lowest deal! Just watch what happens with the Dash 8-400's If the AFAP wants to show any remnants of credibility, then it will step in on behalf of all the interested turboprop pilot groups and negotiate a deal that is common (read:beneficial) for all the interested pilot groups. (We are in an EBA period right now).

If this were to happen, the company will only place the aircraft in the most logistically suitable locations, rather than the "cheapest".

Time to act, AFAP. Bet it don't happen.

I think it's bye bye, AFAP

Thanks for the info Hugh Jarse.
Also for the info of the EPG...not all in Sunstate are happy with the AFAP. "far from it" Regardless of what you hear from some at the top. Good luck with your move.

"not all in Sunstate are happy with the AFAP. "far from it""

What a load of s#*t.

As usual someone has heard a few people complain about AFAP, and all of a sudden the whole Sunnie group is unhappy. I think you'll find most of us are happy at the moment and that we are all sitting back to see what happens with the EPG.

Here, here Jarse.

They've also done nothing for the "GA Award", which is years behind any CPI/Inflationary increases.

In real terms, their pay increases as a percentage of ours, SO you would expect that to be motivation enough on it's own!

And you expect AIPA to do any better? Jetstar MOU, A330 Interleaving model and EBA's.

I'm not suggesting that a change would not be a good move - I am saying that AIPA, under its current leadership is only interested in making deals and I suspect it all might seem a bit familiar to you.

Be careful of jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Many AIPA members are not happy campers at present either. AIPA have demonstrated little in the way of resolve when up against QF management.

One reason attributed for this is AIPA leaderships management aspirations.....

In concept though, and with dedicated leadership, one pilot union resresenting all QF group pilots should work well.

I think the regionals would be marginally better off under the umbrella of AIPA; you have to be a member of the club if you want to be considered in the bigger picture. I also don’t think the Regionals expect AIPA to do anything other than have a policy that accepts them as being part of Qantas and all that entails. The regionals would form their own committee within AIPA and do their own negotiating with the help of AIPA’s legal eagles… The one thing missing at the moment is the application form…..

Quite right Longjohn. AIPA is just a training pipeline to get into management these days. Just look at the recent decision to continue the Squirrel cage after the NO vote....WTF...it was a NO.
Comprendez AIPA? I guess not. Just another arm of management is our AIPA.

And in breaking news I hear the hot rumour ( allegedly of course) that a high profile member has allegedly had a sexual harrassment case brought against him by an F/O. Stay tuned folks, this one has a long way to run.

Speedjet, keep on dreaming mate. You're obviously an AFAP sympathiser, and like the AFAP itself you are so far out of touch with the real issues affecting your members that you think all is rosy.

That's why all this is happening. And yes there has been some interest from north of the border.

Sunstate pilots are encouraged to join QREWROOM. You must register under your real identity (verified), and provide proof of I.D. to gain access to the forums. Click on the Eastern/Sunstate Forums for information.

Interested Sunstate pilots can contact Qantaslink Pilots if you have any questions about the formation of the Eastern Pilots Group.

The truth is out there. Just don't expect to get it from the AFAP.
