With the 43 odd A380's EK have on order, will they require S/O's in the not to distant future?

They don't have second officers on their long range fleet now, so I can't see why the A380 would be any different!

So how do they crew long sectors, two Captains with two FOs or one Capt and two FOs?

I am fairly certain they do have SOs, and I am fairly sure that they are all cadets consisting of UAE nationals only, trained up and paid for by the company.

Emairates' longest sector looks like SYD-DXB according to their website and is listed at 14hrs 40 min. That would give something in the order of of a 16 hr duty period. So if they do not have an augmented crew, to what Flight and Duty regulations do they operate (or which set are they based on)?

2 Crew for 14 hours???

Emirates use 1 Captain and Two FO's for long haul ops, One of those FO's has to be a "relief commander" and endorsed as such.

to what flight and duty regulations do they operate
They operate to a set called "DISPENSATION". If they don't like an applicable part of CAP 371, then it is off to the GCAA to request dispensation. Lost track of just how many we have now.

yes well, for such a "productivity sharing" and "fair and equitable" outfit, they have 2 Capt's and 2 F/O's for the SYD and MEL stuff and 1 Capt and 2 F/O's for the PER and other exotic s#*& holes they operate to.
By the way, is it 15 or 18 of the lads going for Dragon interviews this month ????????????
For those in the Great Downunder getting itchy feet, you had better do some bloody serious homework.
