Life Insurance

For those pilots that have a life insurance policy, which insurance company do you have it with? Which insurance company offers life insurance to pilots that fly the most amount of hours per annum, privately or commercially? I am trying to get it and am running into obstacles with them because I partake in this ever so dangerous pastime...

KLN94,

I wonder if the actuaries have looked at your PPrune address and decided that there is a grave risk to your long term health prospects ..... !!!

Seriously though, yours is a very valid question.

I had the same trouble this year myself and gave up in despair. Having a wife and kid of my own, I would appreciate some info on who will provide Life Insurance to pilots flogging around in GA. (I was told you had to be in Qantas or Virgin by the insurance company AMP that I contacted, otherwise bad luck).

Regards,

TJ

Having known a little bit about insurance in a previous life

I can say that most if not all companies will accept you for both whole of life and term insurance if you are a pilot. Unfortunately though, there is generally a surcharge unless you are employed (or your weekend mount) does Mach .79 or carries 150 pax.
The other option is to have a policy excusion, which says that "you will not be paid out if you die in an aviation related activity other than as a fair paying passenger on a commercial flight".

I have a policy which costs me approximately $150 per year extra to be covered for aviation related activities.

Feel free to PM me if I can help anymore, (no I dont sell insurance now and have no vested interest!!) I hope this helps a little and I did work for AMP.

Cheers, HH.

PS: If you fly planes and race HQ's or ride motocross on the weekend it will make it extremely difficult to get coverage without some sort of exclusion.

I have a policy with Rivkin Direct and after much research found they were one of the only companies that insure GA pilots. It's a good policy and is valid worldwide in case I decide to head o/s.

I got screwed around big time by Lumley Life who, on my initial phone call, said they insure pilots, sent out all the forms which i filled out and sent back only to hear nothing for 2-3 weeks. I gave them a call and was told that they don't insure pilots?!?....idiots

Hope that helps...Mr. Rivkin obviously doesn't mind so I guess they've been feeding him the right pills.

I had to get extra Life Insurance when we brought a house last year, went through a broker, but the policy is with ING with an extra accident/sickness cover, cost $140NZ per month, for 230K cover.
