Done for the benefits of us. Those with slow connections wouldn't have a hard time trying to read posts (not including me )

Post a link if you want to show us a picture

I hear what Clarrie is saying and it's painful for those who don't have an online site to store photos. Thus, they can't place them on PPRuNe. Some other sites have a facility to upload photos (single or multiple), directly from one's computer. This is a good thing for those using Broadband, but a very bad thing for folks who, like me, are compelled to use dialup all the time - in many instances, getting very poor linespeed and paying by the minute for the phone call, as well as the ISP charges.

Some years ago, I invested some money in photo space on FotoTime, which has worked out well for me. I'm sure there are many other such sites for storing photos that are equally easy to use. I figure that, by posting a URL, I'm giving everyone the opportunity to decide whether or not they want to open it but, if I'm able to upload a photo directly from my computer, everyone who opens the thread is forced to (wait for) and see it.

I also suspect that the reason why PPRuNe doesn't allow direct uploading is a bandwidth consideration. More importantly, however, it might allow unscrupulous people to upload images that are somewhat less than desireable on a public forum. There were problems, some years ago, with the posting of URLs in some of the forums (including JB), which is why you can't even post a URL in all the forums these days.

Some forums on PPRuNe, for instance JB have IMG = ON, others such as D&G Aircrew Notices have IMG = OFF. Just curious as to why as I'd have thought JB was more likely to have unsavoury images than D&G.
